This past week, I had an incredible experience at All-Star Events around San Francisco! I had the honor of speaking on a panel at the Sphere of Sports Summit titled "The Rise of Women in Sports Leadership" alongside four remarkable women: , President of the ; , President of the and Soul soccer teams; , Partner at Cultural Leadership Fund ; and Leslie Maxiie, Olympian and journalist.
These women are my All-Stars! They are unapologetically breaking down barriers, leading their companies, and uplifting everyone around them. Our discussion began with reflections on the challenges we each faced to reach our current positions. Each woman shared a candid account of what it takes to rise, create, and lead in industries that have traditionally been male-dominated. My favorite part of the conversation was when we considered the advice we’d give to a 19-year-old starting out today. The insights included being open to new opportunities, carving your own path, transforming "no's" into "yes's," and networking like the men already do.
What stood out to me during this discussion is that All-Stars are made, not born. None of the women on the panel were handed their opportunities without facing struggles, setbacks, and resistance. Just like them, when I hung my shingle as an independent sports medicine physician five years ago, I had no script, algorithm, or venture capital check to lean on. Yet each of these women forged her own path as a leader, creating amazing things along the way.
When women become All-Stars, they elevate everyone with their wealth, knowledge and power. These are the individuals we need to celebrate, support, and invest in—not just during weekends of fanfare, but every day.
Special Thank You to for having me on the panel!
