Today we welcome Qiu Fen — Autumn Equinox, the 16th seasonal point and midway between the solstices. You’ll notice a balance of Yin and Yang energy in the next two weeks before the days gradually become shorter.

Take a few minutes each day to practice mindful breathing. Focus on deep diaphragmatic breaths to strengthen Lung Qi, lower stress, and improve sleep. Stress is often linked to many health issues, including immunity, digestive, inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, and many others. A consistent daily breathing practice can help mitigate stress.

Here’s a quick breathing guide:
Step 1: Stand or sit in neutral spine position. Relax your shoulders.
Step 2: Start with a few regular breaths. Feel free to keep your eyes open or close.
Step 3: Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 seconds and hold your breath for another 4 seconds.
Step 4: Exhale gently through your mouth for 4 seconds and hold your breath for 4 seconds.
Step 5: Repeat this cycle for 5-10 minutes or longer.
**Tip:  If 4 seconds seem too long, reduce the 3 or 2 seconds and slowly work your way up.
You may practice this breath work as is, or as part of your acupressure session.

What if menopause wasn’t an ending… but the beginning of your Second Spring? 🌸 In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this stage is considered a rebirth: where your vital energy shifts from reproduction to nourishing you, your wisdom, vitality, and creativity.

While changes like hot flashes, emotional shifts, and fatigue may feel disruptive, TCM views them as signs that your body is recalibrating toward a new Yin-Yang balance.

With simple Yang Sheng (“nourishing life”) practices like hydrating foods, gentle movement, and deep rest, you can embrace this transition as a season of renewal.

Save this post or share with someone who may find it helpful. And if you’re entering your Second Spring, which symptoms are you noticing? or has it been smooth sailing for you?

Lì Qiū (立秋) — Beginning of Autumn 🍂 Today marks the 13th seasonal point of the year and a seasonal shift to autumn. A gentle reminder that Yin energy is gradually growing and Yang is slowly contracting in the natural world. Days are shortening, nights are getting cooler and the Autumn Equinox is only six weeks away.

While the weather is shifting, the next few weeks may still feel damp and humid. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dampness is a condition that slows down the Spleen and Stomach, aka the digestive system. The inverse also applies.

Dampness can manifest as: feelings of heaviness, water retention, lethargy, sluggishness, phlegm, loose stools, poor appetite, etc.

This week, we’re entering a new solar term of Dà Shǔ (大暑), or Major Heat, the 12th seasonal point of the year.

Major Heat is the hottest time of year. During this term, prioritize clearing heat from the body and building Qi since high temperatures can deplete it.

Stay golden with our pearl-powered cleanser ✨ In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pearl is prized for its ability to calm the spirit, support radiant skin, and promote cellular regeneration.

Topically, pearl powder provides gentle exfoliation while evening out skin tone. Our favorite “hack” for the Bioadaptive Cleanser is to apply a layer as a mask for a softer, brighter complexion. ✨

06/05/2025

Today, we welcome a new solar term Máng Zhǒng (芒种) — Bearded Grain 🌾 This is the 9th seasonal point of the year with summer solstice fast approaching. “Máng” refers to the maturing crops, and “Zhǒng” means to plant or grow. This period is all about expansion of Yang and growth.

TO EAT
The key to thriving during summer is to prevent dampness, support digestion and Spleen health.

🍽️ Opt for lighter meals. Limit or avoid iced/cold foods, especially first thing in the morning. Instead of an iced smoothie to start the day, go for a warm breakfast bowl and add a few slices of ginger to your morning tea or congee.

🥒 Cooling summer foods to shop for: cucumbers, bitter melon, mung bean, watermelons, sea vegetables, mint, celery, lettuce, and water chestnuts.

🫚 Balance it with foods that also support the Spleen: Shan Yao (Chinese yam), ginger, millet, red rice, peanuts, adzuki beans, barley, lotus root, mushrooms, asparagus, bok choy, and perilla leaves.

TO DO
😴 Wake up with the sun and take a nap in the afternoon (aka 午睡 - wǔshuì). Sleep is one of the best ways to revive your energy, especially during the most Yang or hot time of the day. It allows you to rest from the summer heat and humidity, supporting your energy and immunity.

🫀Gua Sha along the Heart and Pericardium meridians on your inner forearm. This helps to clear heat and alleviate sleep issues, mental restlessness, and depression.

TO USE
If you find your skin more oily and prone to breakouts during warmer months, try our Clarify Botanical Serum. Formulated to balance sebum production, decongest, and provide lightweight nourishment with herbs like Lotus, Ginseng, and Schisandra Berries.

Today we enter Lì Xià (立夏), or Beginning of Summer, the seventh seasonal point of the year.

Even though it may not feel like summer yet, we are at the midpoint between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Li Xia is a time when Yang — our bright, active, warm energy — grows and strengthens steadily.

With warmer weather, Qi and Blood naturally circulate more rapidly throughout the body. Consider introducing cooling foods and deep breathing to your daily rituals to help maintain balance.

🍽️ TO EAT

Spleen-strengthening foods — Transitional phases are a time to strengthen the Spleen with foods that naturally nourish this organ, including Shan Yao, ginger, millet, rice, peanuts, adzuki beans, barley, lotus root, snow mushrooms, asparagus, perilla leaves and eggs.

Cooling foods and drinks — Incorporate early summer produce in your recipes, such as green beans, fava beans, zucchini, cucumbers, okra, corn, tomatoes, melons, cherries and loquats.

For a cooling mid-day drink, try a tea of mint and honey or chrysanthemum and goji berries.

Avoid overeating during this seasonal point, especially of sweet, heavy and fatty foods.

📋 TO DO

Avoid the midday heat — Exercise during the early mornings or evenings to avoid excessive sweating and sun exposure.

Deep breathing — Taking deep breaths throughout the day to help quiet the heart and mind.

Gua Sha — Shift your Gua Sha ritual to focus on the Heart, Pericardium and Small Intestine meridians. These techniques are specifically geared to clear heat in the body and relax the mind.
