Maitri Compassionate Care

No one should have to suffer, transition or die alone. Maitri is a Residential Care Facility for the Make a Gift: https://www.maitrisf.org/donate/

Since 1987, Maitri has offered 15-beds, serviced by skilled professionals and dedicated volunteers who offer nursing and personal care as well as emotional and spiritual resources to help meet the special needs associated with HIV-related illness. This non-profit program in San Francisco is focused especially on those who might otherwise be without adequate resources or care.

In 2025, Maitri supported 57 clients across our programs.

That includes:

• 25 HIV/AIDS Residential Care clients
• 20 BRANCH Aftercare clients
• 12 Maitri Affirmation Center clients recovering from gender-affirming surgeries

While these numbers help tell part of the story, they only scratch the surface of the impact. Every client who comes through our doors is a person seeking stability, healing, and dignity.

From 24-hour nursing care and social work support to aftercare and recovery services for transgender and gender-diverse clients, Maitri is committed to meeting people where they are and walking alongside them on their journey.

We’ve been thinking a lot about Grant’s journey lately. It’s one thing to recover from a difficult surgery, but it’s another thing entirely to find a sense of belonging you didn't know you were missing.

He’s officially a staple in our BRANCH Aftercare Program now. We love that he still gets his quiet time while staying connected to the community that helped him get back on his feet.

Success looks different for everyone, and for Grant, it looks like finding community.
