Every human being, no matter where they are born, deserves the most basic essentials of life: safety, food, emotional and physical shelter, and dignity.
These are not luxuries. They are not rewards. They are not political bargaining chips.
They are the foundation of our shared humanity.
A child waiting in line for food, a parent trying to shield their family from violence, an elder hoping to live their last years in peace — these are not enemies.
They are people, just like us, with the same fragile, sacred needs: to be fed, to be safe, to be sheltered — both in body and in heart — and to be seen as human.
When we turn away from those who are starving, grieving, displaced, or calling out for help, we do not just fail them — we diminish ourselves.
Let us remember: dignity is not something we give to others. It is something we recognize — because it is already theirs. It is inherent.
And when we uphold the dignity of others, we honor what is most human in ourselves.
The trauma being inflicted right now is massive. Generations are suffering, while many sit on couches, dissociated from the unbearable truths unfolding in the world.
The need is now. Wake up — for human rights, for dignity, for the future of us all.
