My approach to healing integrates the philosophies of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine with my experience as a therapeutic bodyworker and knowledge of yoga asana. I received my master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from ACTCM (American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine) in San Francisco, and have studied extensively under Dr. Edith Ubuntu Chan, DAOM, L.Ac., who is best known for her exceptional work as a holistic sports medicine practitioner. Additional professional development has included various trainings in orthopedics and sports medicine, as well as completing a certification in Advanced Constitutional Facial Acupuncture. My formal bodywork training has included various Eastern and Western modalities, including studying at the Thai Massage School of Chiang Mai in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and receiving my Shiatsu and Tui Na certifications at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Most recently, I have been inspired by the work of Ortho-Bionomy, a gentle system of healing developed to support the body in its own process of self-recovery.

Last week, my SuperWellness journey with Edith Ubuntu Chan was about listening to our body, aligning with our inner truth, and eliminating stress…all of which I’m sure we could all do more of!

I had a particularly stressful night one night last week and found myself lying in bed with my mind racing. Sound familiar? I decided to get up and revisit something that I had done once or twice before out of curiosity, but never out of necessity. EFT Tapping. Tapping was mentioned as one of Edith’s favorite de-stressing tools, and it had crossed my path in other forms a few times in the past couple weeks, so I decided to give it another try. If you are unfamiliar with tapping, it’s essentially a combination of psychology and acupressure on 9 specific acupressure points, and it is amazing!

I have been loving The Tapping Solution app which has a ton of different guided tapping meditations, but once you know how to tap, you can really just do it on your own, whenever and wherever you are.

Have you ever seen a smoothie become gelatinous before your very eyes and wonder why? Assuming you didn’t add any agar agar, gelatin or similar, it’s very likely that you have created a super hydrating smoothie full of 4th Phase Water! (See my previous posts on 4th Phase Water if you aren’t familiar with this term.)

Last week, my SuperWellness journey with Edith Ubuntu Chan included 3 days of liquids (water, fresh juices, smoothies, bone broths and blended soups) with the intention of giving the digestive system a rest, nourishing the body with fresh organic foods (in liquid form, of course), creating lightness in the body, and being open to whatever amazing side effects the experience would bring.

One day, I decided to blend up some fresh blueberries, peaches, coconut water, mint, filtered water, a pinch of sea salt, and after drinking maybe 2/3 of the glass of my delicious smoothie, I set it down. …only to pick it up later and have it gelatinize so much that you could hold the cup upside down without it even budging! Did I literally create a cup so full of 4th Phase Water that it turned into gel???

As for other side effects of the 3 days of liquids, I definitely feel lighter and I even noticed it was easier to jump and play hopscotch with my 2 year old! My mind is more clear, and I feel great…and I’m still continuing to do atleast 1 liquid meal per day.

I have been loving my Super Wellness journey with Edith Ubuntu Chan, and learning fascinating new things about WATER these last weeks!

Did you know that there are 4 phases of water? Yes, FOUR! 1) gas/vapor, 2) liquid, 3) solid, and 4) a gel-like phase between liquid and solid, sometimes called Exclusion Zone or EZ Water, or structured water. It is this Fourth Phase of Water that is inside our cells and drives our cellular function, energy, detoxification and well, health of the body.

It is very likely that most, if not all of us are chronically dehydrated on some level, as adequate hydration has not only to do with how much water we are drinking, but the quality of water (amount of EZ Water) in our bodies. It turns out there are many simple and easy ways that we can increase the amount of EZ Water in the body. Here are a few of my favorites:

- Sunlight - expose your water and your body to sunlight
- Go out in nature / grounding
- Move! - movement, especially twisting, squeezes the fascia (your water delivery system) and generates energy for your cells
- Eat your EZ Water by eating a high plant diet! - some of the most hydrating ones to include are apples, cucumbers, celery and aloe
- Eat high quality fats - coconut, avocados, walnuts, chia seeds, ghee
- Add a pinch of sea salt to your water
- Vortex your water - you can try swirling your water until it spins into a vortex back and forth a few times, or get a water structurizing vortex gadget (https://structuredwaterunit.com/)
