And please enjoy this video of Pranashakti 3, a Sattva Himalayan breath kriya that increases energy and circulation, creates focused, clear attention, lifts you out of lethargic/stagnant energy, and strengthens your shoulders and back. 🔥

For those of you with little ones ages birth to 3, I give highest recommendation to the San Francisco Waldorf School's Parent-Child program. These classes were by far the most rich and nourishing of the activities I did with my two children, and I have happily shared about them ever since. From quietly observing your child to learn about their rhythms to singing and cooking together to exploring nature, the classes offer warm engagement, meaningful discussion, and a wonderful supportive community. The new semester begins later this month.

Reflections on Sunday’s Yoga & Meditation Retreat Part 2...
As we opened the retreat, some shared they had lost their joy. Others shared they had nothing left to give themselves or others after handling work and guiding their children’s education from home during the pandemic. Others hadn’t taken time for themselves in months or even years! Many had not kept up a regular yoga practice first as studios closed and later as Zoom fatigue kicked in and did not feel as healthy and good in their bodies anymore. Many were holding upset over violation of women’s rights, extreme political and religious ideology division, and climate change and natural disasters in the US and around the world.

Wow - so much we are all carrying. So many knots, so much de-stressing to do and residue to release from the past 2.5 years. And so many of us not quite knowing how to do this and struggling alone, without necessarily having in person community back in place.

And so we began with breath, slowing it down, smoothing it out, dropping into our bodies. We danced to La Bicicleta by Carlos Vives and Shakira, to touch playfulness and fun. We set intention to further awaken our hearts and our will to keep leaning in the direction of growth, to cultivate more love and wisdom, to lift ourselves up in community, to honor our bodies. We practiced potent Himalayan Kundalini breath and kriya techniques to enliven the energy to support all the above and then asana to integrate and stabilize that energy.

We ate lunch together, enjoyed free time to breath the fresh ocean air and bathe in the lovely sunlight, hike or rest, and returned for coffee/tea and gluten free, vegan banana chocolate chip cookies that I love to bake with my daughter for these retreats. The joy of connection was so palpable - no one was ready to emerge from coffee, cookie and conversation time! But we did, into kirtan (chanting), calming breath and kriya on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, and a slow, nourishing, therapeutic afternoon asana practice. The light shining so brightly through everyone’s eyes in our closing circle said everything. We honored the experience of transformation in ourselves through these recent years and through our day together. What a blessing.

More than anything else I know, yoga supports one’s becoming an integrated human being. I bow in deep gratitude to my teachers and to this magnificent ancient wisdom tradition of yoga that continues to bestow its gifts with such full relevance to modern times.

I continue to teach some classes on Zoom and may soon begin in person small group meditation and breathwork circles at my healing arts office in Cow Hollow. Please reach out if interested. www.WelcomeOm.com. I hope each of you is finding your way to de-stress and heal and are well bathed in loving kindness and compassion from within and around you. 💖

I gifted myself recently with a 5 day “Juicy Ladies" retreat by the Yuba River in the Grass Valley area. With my son’s graduation from high school in June, it was important to me to take time for myself to pause, rest, relax, meditate, immerse in nature, play, create ritual around completion of this chapter of my life, commune with other women, and reflect on and honor the immense devotion and growth of the past 21 years of motherhood. It was so joyful and invigorating, and I began to reclaim some of my creative energy that has been channeled so strongly toward growing and raising our two children.

I left our very old and big family tent behind and went to the retreat with a new, fresh energy two person tent that could be my very own womb of sorts in this rebirthing of the empty nest next chapter me. I called it a Tent of One’s Own (ode to Virginia Woolf for those of you not familiar with her writing). I painted my toenails orange (first pedi since pre-Covid) as a gesture of bold playfulness. I hadn’t camped in years and found the experience pretty magical (along with really every aspect of the skillfully led retreat). I fell in love with the Yuba River. Those huge fantastically shaped rocks! Swimming in the perfectly cool and gentle waters and then bouldering over and lazing upon those rocks like a sun seeking lizard! I felt the waters flow through me and clear away residual gripping and weeds (thoughts/patterns) that had been partly impeding the naturally joyous flow of life. Sooooo fabulous in every way.

My dedication to spiritual practices has been strong for a very long time, and I feel very connected to my ancient Himalayan yogi self. But on this retreat my playful and “juicy lady” nature came out to say “more attention and time for me now, please!” Can’t wait to see where this awakening leads and how it feels to integrate these parts more.

Our family is thus heading to LA to visit my dad and stepmom, do some boogie boarding, and max out on three full days at Disneyland and California Adventure (yep, our kids are 18 and 21 now, still love road trips, and we’ve never done this together - it’s time).

I hope you are finding some time for retreat and play as well this summer. How do you stay connected to your life juiciness?

Let's look at how to position your baby comfortably for a massage so they can feel relaxed and able to receive your loving touch.

These tips also address what kind of position is best depending upon the age of your baby.

🔸Young babies tend to feel more cozy, safe and held if placed on a bed pillow. Make sure the pillow is not so fluffy that they roll right off.
🔸You can also tuck a second pillow or folded blanket or cushion halfway under the first pillow to prop baby’s torso up to more easily have eye contact with baby
🔸And to create more comfort for a baby with reflux.
🔸When you turn baby over for back massage, be sure to remove the pillows
🔸And place your baby directly on a towel or on your legs (as shown) so their breathing is not obstructed.

NOTES :
✨Babies 3 months and up don’t tend to need the pillow anymore and are fine directly on a towel.
✨If you are on a hard floor, place your baby and towel on something for additional padding like a folded blanket.

* Teaching parents and caregivers how to massage babies has been one of my favorite things to do for nearly 20 years.*

If you’d like to learn a full massage for baby and so much more, please join me for a workshop.

Join me next on Thursday 7/21, 1:30-3:30pm PT on Zoom via CPMC/Newborn Connections.

And future dates via Natural Resources coming soon!

Try this 🏹 Arjuna Breath Kriya (it's one of my favorite variations of warrior 2!)

Do you sometimes feel fragmented and unfocused and have difficulty channeling your energy where you really want to? Learning to focus and master our attention is a real challenge, and it is so essential!

Fragmented attention means a fragmented mind, which limits our capacity to be centered, steady and present. When your attention is steady you are less reactive and more effective at engaging with life in meaningful ways.

Here is one yogic technique to support you in practicing holding your attention steady. Arjuna breath kriya cultivates presence, commitment, focus and strength along with toning your core, legs, pelvis and heart. Give it a try with me in this video.

To meet the expansive and active energy of June 🌞, I am adding two weekly classes to my Zoom schedule: Join me Tuesday mornings from 7-8am and Wednesday evenings 6:30-7:30pm PT for Integrated Hatha!

The word integrated means we will practice a blend of breathwork, kriya, mantra, mudra and asana (poses).

Yoga is a teaching, a practice, and an experience of integration - it was never meant to be separated out into just an asana practice.

I hope these times allow you to easily come before and/or after work and kid summer activities. My prenatal, postnatal and Himalayan Kundalini schedule remains the same.

Please note no classes 6/13-6/16 while I'm away.

Anyone need an energy pick me up? Join me for 6 minutes in this video to try the Warrior Breath Series and you might not need that cup of coffee! Warrior Breaths expand and release energy. They are uplifting and awakening as well as grounding and stabilizing. I also demonstrate a prenatal variation in the video after guiding each technique.

Want to join me for a few minutes of Blooming Lotus Kriya? This is a gentle and meditative practice that anyone can do. It can center and soften you into your heart, help stress melt away, open the chest and shoulders, and relax you more into the flow of life.

Stand with your feet hip width, hands together at the heart center. Breathe in and out through your nose. Inhale and raise your arms overhead, keeping your palms together. Exhale and billow the hands outward and downward as if tracing a lotus flower, bringing the hands back to the heart center. Let your gaze be soft, following your hands as they rise, then resting in the space between your hands as they billow.

The lotus flower is a powerful symbol in yoga. The lotus grows in muddy water, and rises above the mud to blossom beautifully. As you inhale, envision that you are like the lotus flower, rising above your life conditioning, challenges and obstacles. As you exhale, envision that you are the flower blooming and expanding, revealing its beauty and essence. Move slowly and gracefully. Repeat as many times as you wish.

Wishing everyone a beautiful day.
