When a child acts out, shuts down, or lashes out — it can feel overwhelming, confusing, or hard to know how to help. But what if that behavior is their most powerful form of communication? And what if the very responses we’ve relied on for decades – timeouts, discipline, exclusion, segregation – are making the problem worse?

This training equips caregivers with a clear, supportive framework for navigating difficult conversations with families when concerns about a child’s development, behavior, or potential disability arise. Participants will learn how to prepare for these conversations, communicate concerns with empathy and clarity, and respond to a range of family reactions. The goal is to build confidence and strengthen partnerships with families while keeping the child’s well-being at the center. Attendees can expect a mix of practical strategies, reflection, and real-life application.

Cantonese and Spanish interpretation available.

Every educator has been there — a child is suddenly overwhelmed, and it's hard to know what to do.

This training is designed to help early childhood educators better understand those intense moments and respond with confidence. You'll explore the rage cycle — learning to recognize the stages children move through when flooded with frustration, anger, or distress — so you can support them more effectively when it matters most.

Interpretation available in Cantonese.
