Why we should be talking to young people about fertility planning...

"The cultural narrative of pregnancy centers around surprise, ease and magic. We have set a cultural expectation that as soon as one stops preventing pregnancy, they get pregnant. But many of our Blue Ova patients share that they are disappointed and rocked by the challenge of getting pregnant. These common notions around pregnancy are harmful— they erase many people’s reality, where starting a family can take years and come with hurdles like loss, financial stress and strained relationships".

Acknowledging and promoting fertility awareness is a critical part of reproductive health education and expanding beyond pregnancy prevention is important at a teenage level.

Let’s talk (at-home) semen analysis and male fertility! 🕺🏻


As a practice specializing in fertility, we know that male fertility is fifty percent of the equation. When working with a couple, we carefully consider the reproductive health of both partners. Getting a current semen analysis is part of our first steps to getting a full picture.

Often there are barriers to travel, cost, discomfort, and stigma involved in getting a semen analysis. At-home tests (like Fellow) remove these barriers. After ordering a kit from their website (at a reduced cost to Blue Ova patients), the kit is sent to your home with thorough collection instructions. This gives the individual the ability to relax in their own home and provide their sample at a convenient time for them. Their sample is then placed back in the kit and dropped off at a post office to arrive at a lab for analysis.

We at Blue Ova are excited to be working with Fellow, based in San Francisco. They have merged technology, science, and user-friendly design to create a revolutionary at-home semen analysis kit. There are several mail-in kit companies, but Fellow is the only mail-in test that operates its own CLIA-certified lab. For us, this was critical, as it allows them to ensure that every test is done to the highest quality standards ensuring you get the most accurate results possible.

One of the most important things to know and remember throughout a semen analysis is that there are simple solutions to problems that may arise. Testicles are constantly producing new s***m. S***m regenerate every 72-90 days. A semen analysis might reveal motility and morphology problems, which acupuncture can have a significantly positive effect on, and often in that short amount of time (72-90 days).

Because s***m can change so quickly, we recommend re-testing every 6-12 months. We love that at-home testing now makes this easier.

Announcing our 5-week series Fertility Support Group (via zoom), starting November 10th.....Fertility challenges, obstacles, and the unknown parts of this journey can be isolating. But you are not alone. We want you to have a safe space to connect with others like you, who may be going through similar experiences and can empathize and support you.

The Blue Ova Fertility Support Group is a professionally-led group facilitated by Samantha Franklin LCSW. The group has weekly topics, support strategies, and opportunities for you to share and to support each other in a safe, confidential, and judgment-free group while building a fertility community.

At Blue Ova, we exist to support women and couples on their journey toward parenthood. A critical aspect of this is the emotional response to the challenges of your fertility journey.

September is Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome Awareness Month. Have you heard of PCOS? It affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age, and is the leading cause of infertility. That’s HUGE.

Acupuncturist who specialize in women's health, like those at Blue Ova, can support PCOS symptoms, even if a patient is not currently trying to conceive, and offer regulation and support to the body and mind.

📌PCOS is a serious genetic, hormone, metabolic and reproductive disorder that affects women and girls

📌Infertility challenges can be, for many women, the most distressing aspect of a PCOS diagnosis.

📌One of the main symptoms of PCOS is having irregular ovulation, which presents a challenge to predicting fertile windows.

📌Insulin also factors into PCOS cases. One specific type of PCOS is Insulin-resistant PCOS, in which high insulin and leptin impede ovulation and stimulate the ovaries to make testosterone.

📌But PCOS is not an infertility diagnosis!

📌Women with PCOS can get pregnant naturally and can have very healthy babies.

We hope that those living with PCOS feel supported in their journey-- by their practitioners, community and selves.

PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and it affects 5-10% of women of reproductive age. Part of cultivating our awareness of PCOS is understanding what PCOS is, how it affects different parts of our lives, and how we can respond to a diagnosis.
