Meet the Team Behind Sync Labs

At Sync Labs, we’re building Alice: an AI-powered, privacy-first caregiver co-pilot designed to support the future of senior care. But behind every line of code, every pilot, and every caregiver insight is a team of driven individuals working to make that vision real.

Here’s who we are:

Melanie Herbert – Founder & CEO
Inspired by her own experiences as a patient relying on caregivers, Melanie leads Sync Labs with a deep understanding of the caregiving crisis. She drives the company’s vision, product development, and partnerships, using her background in electrical engineering to build tech that empowers caregivers and improves quality of life for seniors.

Alexandra Popescu – Head of Product Development
Alex is the bridge between tech and care. She leads product iteration, testing, and implementation, making sure Alice delivers meaningful insights while staying simple for caregivers to use in real life.

Rajnish Gupta – Computer Vision Engineer
Rajnish powers the AI brains behind Alice. He enhances our proprietary vision system, trains our models to near-perfect accuracy, and develops new detection features that make Alice smarter every day.

Joseph Sorkin – Software Engineer
Joey ensures Alice runs smoothly and scalably. He leads backend development, manages our AWS infrastructure, and is expanding Alice’s capabilities as a central hub, integrating data from third-party services and enabling snap-in compatibility with additional sensors.

Aneesh Kumar Baskaran – Software Engineer
Aneesh focuses on developing Alice’s mobile app, translating complex data outputs into simple, actionable caregiver tools. With a strong background in Mixed Reality and machine learning, he’s uniquely equipped to create intuitive, context-aware interfaces.

Jacob Hutchison – Head of Business Development
Jacob leads our growth. He manages pilot performance, forges new partnerships, and secures funding to help Sync Labs scale our mission and impact.

Sync Labs, Providence health system, Creekside Cottage, Olive Tree Assisted Living, and Burbank Manor connect at the Sonoma County Board and Care Collective!

Yesterday, Sync Labs had the privilege of joining a powerful gathering of local board and care operators to discuss the future of residential care. A huge thank you to Kelly Sturgeon, J.D. & Berkley Sturgeon for starting this amazing group and the kind invitation to speak, and to Arlin Gregorio for graciously hosting us in such a warm and welcoming space.

The conversation was dynamic and deeply insightful, covering everything from fire safety protocols, compliance with evolving regulations, and preparedness for emergency procedures, to the broader vision for how care organizations can operate more efficiently and sustainably. It was inspiring to see operators so committed to elevating their standards and sharing best practices.

These types of gatherings remind us how powerful local collaboration can be, and how innovation and empathy go hand in hand when improving lives.

Introducing Sync Labs: The Future of Senior Care

At Sync Labs, we’re reimagining eldercare with empathy and technology. Born out of the University of Pennsylvania, our mission is to support the people at the heart of senior care: caregivers and the seniors they serve.

Our AI-powered assistant, Alice, helps caregivers spend less time on paperwork and more time with people. By capturing critical insights like fall detection, bathroom activity, and meal patterns, Alice provides a real-time picture of each senior’s well-being, allowing caregivers to focus on what matters most: delivering compassionate, personalized care.
