Felton Institute was founded in 1889 and responds to human needs by providing cutting edge, evidence-based mental health and social services that transform lives. Offering more than 50 acclaimed and honored programs that address homelessness, mental health, prenatal, adolescent, adult and senior needs, Felton Institute provides services in San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Marin, and Monterey counties. Felton is named for its social services pioneer and executive director Dr. Katharine “Kitty” Felton who was called the ”conscience of San Francisco” and was committed to ensuring that children and families in crisis have access to social services and resources in order to help them build upon their inherent strengths and develop self-sufficiency.

***dePreventionMonth | The San Mateo Su***de Prevention (SMSP) is proud to co-chair the Su***de Prevention Committee (SPC) alongside Sylvia Tang, MPP, Community Health Planner with the County of San Mateo and fellow SPC Co-Chair.

The SPC provides oversight and guidance for su***de prevention efforts in San Mateo County. Led by the Office of Diversity and Equity at San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, the committee includes su***de attempt survivors, su***de loss survivors, behavioral health providers, social service providers, local transportation staff, and other community members dedicated to preventing su***de in our community.

Taylor, Sylvia, and SMSP Program Manager Lauren joined SPC members for an in-person networking event to gather su***de prevention materials and reflect on this year’s prevention efforts.

Felton Institute’s San Mateo Su***de Prevention (SMSP) Director, Taylor Mannion-Coutts, ASW, accepted a proclamation from San Bruno Mayor Rico Medina recognizing September as Su***de Prevention Month.

As the lead agency for Su***de Prevention Month across San Mateo County, we are honored to see San Bruno, and many other cities in our county, join together to shine a light on su***de prevention. San Bruno City Hall will be lit in teal and purple all month long, a powerful reminder that awareness and hope live in every community.

This year’s theme, “Support Your Way,” reminds us that reaching out for help is an act of strength and self-determination. Support looks different for everyone, and asking for it is not losing control—it’s taking it back. Together, we can create spaces where every person feels seen, supported, and never alone!
