Our communities have always shown up for each other. This AAPI Heritage Month, we're asking: are clinical trials showing up for us? AANHPI communities are significantly underrepresented in clinical research — even though we bear a disproportionate burden of certain diseases like IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Representation in clinical research isn't just a scientific issue. It's a health equity issue.

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month! Hepatitis B, in particular, disproportionately affects minority populations, including Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. We've created this resource to spread awareness and educate AANHPIs about hepatitis B.

This resource is currently available in English, with additional translations to be updated on our website.

Wonderful news! Our friends at Coalition on Human Needs have selected advocate, community leader, and former White House lawyer Christopher Kang as their next executive director. Kang joins CHN as it prepares to celebrate its 45th anniversary this year.

We’re so thrilled to welcome him, and we give our deepest thanks to Deborah Weinstein for her more than two decades of leadership at CHN.

Today, on World AIDS Vaccine Day, we reflect on both the progress made and the work that still lies ahead.

Scientific advances in HIV prevention are reshaping what is possible, but innovation alone is not enough. Ending AIDS will require sustained urgency, equitable access, community leadership, and global collaboration.

In this new blog post, ISID Emerging Leader Nelisiwe Mhlabane explores where the global HIV response stands today, why vulnerability remains structural, and how emerging breakthroughs are reframing the future of HIV prevention.

AAPI Heritage Month is a time to celebrate our communities — and to speak honestly about the health challenges we face. IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a rare kidney disease that disproportionately impacts people of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) descent. About 1 in 3 people with IgAN are of API descent, and API individuals often experience faster disease progression and worse health outcomes. This May, we're raising awareness. Know the signs. Talk to your doctor. Share this post. 💙

Today is IgAN Awareness Day — and we're spotlighting a conversation that matters.

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a kidney disease that affects 1 in 3 people of Asian descent, yet it often goes undetected for years. Early diagnosis can make a real difference — but first, communities need to know what to look for.

That's why we recorded a special podcast episode: Breaking Barriers: The need for participation in clinical research. In it, we explore what IgAN is, why it disproportionately affects AANHPI communities, and why diverse representation in health research matters for all of us.

AANHPI communities are underrepresented in breast cancer research. The result? Medical discoveries that don't fully reflect our biology, our risk, or our lives.
This Heritage Month, let's change that. Join the Rutgers breast cancer genetics study — it's free, fully remote, and takes just a few minutes.

🎁 Bonus: Receive a free genetic ancestry report for participating.

This AAPI Heritage Month, we celebrate the vibrant, diverse communities that make up the Asian American and Pacific Islander family — and we recommit to fighting for health equity for all. 🌺 At APIAHF, we believe every community deserves healthcare that reflects who they are. That starts with representation — in research, in clinical trials, and in the rooms where decisions are made. Happy AAPI Heritage Month! Share who you're celebrating this May. ⬇️
