BumblebeeSF Doula Service

BumblebeeSF Doula Service I'm Verena, a San Francisco-based Postpartum Doula and RYT® 500 Yoga Teacher and Ayurveda enthusiast.

I'm passionate about an holistic approach that allows me to offer a more comprehensive yoga and doula experience, for physical and mental health. I am originally from Germany and moved to the Bay Area in 2008. I love traveling and camping, training and playing with my dog Idefix, go for hikes, do and teach yoga, meet friends, and cook healthy and delicious meals. Not just through my practice as a

nurse in Germany but also my own journey of navigating personal health challenges led me to a deep exploration of self-care and holistic wellness. Through this journey, I've gained a profound understanding of nutrition, home remedies, herbs, and alternative medicine, including Ayurveda and Yoga. I am passionate about sharing this knowledge with my clients to support their own wellness journeys.

Setting Your Sankalpa: A Seed for Intention.

Sankalpa, often translated as "intention" or "resolve," is more than just a fleeting thought. It's a deep, heartfelt commitment to a specific goal, a seed we plant in the fertile ground of our mind. It's a powerful tool, particularly in practices like Yoga Nidra and meditation, to guide our actions and shape our reality.
Unlike a general wish, a sankalpa is specific, positive, and stated in the present tense as if it's already happening.
There is a difference between a resolution we set usually at the beginning of the year and a sankalpa. A resulution is often driven from the thinking of "I am not good enough" so then I force myself to run because I dislike my body. A sankalpa is coming from self-understanding, from a heartfelt desire and from there we can move with joy because we honer our body and our health.
It's not about what we want to achieve, but rather a declaration of what we are becoming. For example, instead of "I want to be more patient," a sankalpa might be "I am patient and understanding."
Crafting our sankalpa requires introspection. What truly resonates with our deepest values? What change do we genuinely desire to cultivate within ourselves? Once we’ve identified it, phrase it concisely and powerfully.
Our sankalpa becomes a gentle reminder, a compass pointing we are going in the right direction. Bring it to mind regularly, especially during moments of quiet reflection, and allow it to permeate your thoughts and actions. Nurture it with consistent attention, and watch it blossom into reality. What sankalpa will you plant today?

Last week in my yoga class we had the theme of Satya, Truthfulness. This is the second Yama in yoga sutras.
Truthfulness it's about finding your truth. But how can we find our own truth? The answer is simple:
Listening to what you're already saying to yourself. Your innate wisdom, the answers are there, no need to look for the answer outside, you just have to listen. Yoga and meditation give us the space and silence to hear what is already there.
A great poe, by Rumi says it all:
The guesthouse
"This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival
A joy, a depression, a meanness.
Some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor
Welcome and entertain them all.
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture.
Still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice
Meet them at the door, laughing, and invite them in
Be grateful for whoever comes,
Because each has been sent as a guide from beyond."
What it means is, every day is a new beginning. Don't get up to fall back into your old story. Every day is new, so get up and start to listen to your body, your inner wisdom, to see what it has to say.
I teach every Wednesday 9:30am at Integral Yoga Institute and this and next week also Thursday 9:30am

Breath Of Joy
Breathe In, Breathe Out
"Breathe in spaciousness and acceptance of what is.
Breathe out resistance.
Breath in possibility and optimism.
Breathe out fear and doubt.
Breathe in ease.
Breathe out the need to change the way this moment is unfolding.
Breathe in the certainty that what we really are is so much bigger than pain and suffering.
Breathe out limitation and conditioning.
Breathe in divinity and openness.
Breathe out a prayer of thanks that even in the midst o difficulty, there is awareness."
