As celebrations increase throughout December, AMR Santa Clara County reminds everyone to make safe and responsible choices. Consider the following safety measures:

• Talk openly about the risks of underage drinking and drug use.
• Set curfews and safety plans with teens and young adults.
• Identify a sober driver in advance.
• Use rideshare or public transportation options when possible.

As the winter months progress, the prevalence of the flu, COVID-19 and pneumonia tends to rise. These illnesses cause an array of unpleasant symptoms — such as a cough, fever, runny nose and difficulty breathing — and serious cases can lead to further health complications and even death. However, there are methods of preventing these infections.

• Get vaccinated. Vaccination is the most effective way to protect against the flu, COVID-19 and pneumonia. While the flu and COVID-19 are caused by one specific virus, there are multiple viruses that can lead to pneumonia. Ask a doctor or medical professional about which vaccinations are most appropriate to get.

• Wash your hands. Cleaning your hands regularly is a good way to avoid ingesting germs that may cause sickness. Use soap and warm water and wash for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water is not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

• Cover your mouth and nose. The flu, COVID-19 and viruses that cause pneumonia can all spread via droplets released when an infected person sneezes, coughs or talks. Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow whenever coughing or sneezing or wear a mask to avoid infecting those around you.

• Stay home if sick. To avoid spreading viruses to others, stay home if you are sick with the flu, COVID-19 or pneumonia. Reducing the spread of these illnesses helps improve the collective health of the entire community.

Did you know that 14–17% of Americans call rural communities' home? While life in these areas offers tranquility and a strong sense of independence, it often comes with unique challenges—especially when accessing healthcare services. That’s where our Global Medical Response team steps in, providing essential ground and air emergency medical care and transportation to connect rural residents to the help they need, right when it’s needed most.

As we recognize National Rural Health Day, we extend heartfelt thanks to our teams living in and supporting these communities, and we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to ensuring communities served by GMR have access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live.

Only if transported by one of our affiliated providers, Global Medical Response offers financial protection against ground and air ambulance transport expenses for patients and their families.

National Seat Belt Day is our favorite way to remind everyone about the importance of seatbelt safety. Whether you’re in the driver seat or passenger-side, you should buckle up every time you get in the car. Not only does it reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a car accident, but it’s also the law in some places. So, let’s arrive alive! Ensure your seatbelt is buckled and be safe out there.

This Veterans Day, we proudly honor all U.S. service personnel—especially those within our GMR family—and remember the sacrifices they’ve made for our country. According to the Department of Homeland Security, more than 10% of EMTs are Veterans, and many more work in other areas of EMS. Thank you for adapting the skills you learned as members of the military to now care for others when it matters most. We are forever indebted to you.
