The condition is often chronic, but people who have heart failure can live a full and active life with treatment and healthy lifestyle choices. It’s also important to get diagnosed early. If you notice symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, difficulty breathing while lying down, and weight gain with swelling in the feet, ankles, legs or stomach, call your healthcare provider. Age and family history may make you more likely to have heart disease. You can't control those, but there are risk factors you can help manage. If you have high blood pressure or cholesterol, take steps to reduce them.
