📢 ‼️ Call to Action: AB 481 https://wix.to/RiphRQ9
AB 481 (Rubio) has passed the Assembly and is now in the Senate Business & Professions Committee. The bill would allow unlicensed individuals to perform moderate or high complexity testing under CLIA (federal standards) instead of California standards if they are supervised by a licensed person. This expansion of activities for unlicensed personnel would directly compromise the accuracy of test results and potentially jeopardize the health and safety of patients in California.
Assisting a CLS or MLT with the analytical phase of testing is equivalent to performing tests without a license or supervision. It is impossible for licensed personnel to provide direct and constant supervision (line of sight supervision) to unlicensed personnel while simultaneously performing tests themselves.
How You Can Help:
1. Submit an Opposition Letter
Use the Senate portal here: [https://sbp.senate.ca.gov/committeehome]

2. Key Talking Points:
Undermines California’s rigorous lab personnel standards.
Risks patient safety by diluting supervision requirements.
Conflicts with CLIA’s intent to ensure qualified testing.
3. Deadline: ASAP– The committee could hear the bill any day.
CAMLT is leading the fight, but we need your voice! Every letter counts.
