💜 Caring for Someone with Dementia at End of Life: Gentle Tips 💜
At this stage, words may fade, but connection doesn’t have to. Here are some ways to care with love and presence:
🧠 Choice can be overwhelming — keep things simple. Offer one option at a time.
🍽️ Feeding is harder — soft foods, hand-over-hand support, and watching for signs of aspiration (like coughing or choking) matter.
🗣️ Names can spark memory — call them by name often. Familiarity soothes.
👁️ Show photos — even if they can’t speak, pictures can trigger emotions and recognition.
🤝 Be fully present — your calm presence is more powerful than words.
🧸 They may not say what they need — look for small signs of joy: a song, a scent, a texture. Find what brings comfort.
🧍♀️ Agitation is communication — it often signals fear, pain, or confusion. Gently redirect, never argue.
🛟 Safety & dignity are everything — even small decisions can uphold their sense of self.
End-of-life dementia care is about presence, not perfection. Love shows up in the quietest ways. 💜
