Meet Ruthie, one of our incredible Resident Ambassadors at Atria Oakridge!

Known for being an energetic, friendly and outgoing force of nature, she is always the first on the dance floor and the heart of every event, bringing joy and connection wherever she goes. Ruthie loves welcoming new neighbors, helping others feel at home and building meaningful connections.

Ruthie says it best: “I love being an ambassador because it gives me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, each with their own unique stories, perspectives and experiences to share. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that I love to talk!”

We’re so grateful for our ambassadors, who make our communities a warmer, more connected place every day.

When Hurricane Michael destroyed Portia’s Florida home, her daughter Danna worried about what would come next. What they found was more than just a safe place to live – it was a community that celebrates Portia’s talents as an artist and creates new friendships while providing the support she needs.

“I really like that there are nurses there and there’s a doctor who comes by once a week,” Danna says. “It puts me at ease to know that there are people there in case she needs anything health-wise.”

A big celebration was held at Atria Park of Ann Arbor for Daryl's 101st birthday!

When we asked her what 101 years of life is like, she said, "It's been all over the map – I've had good times and bad times. But I'm very grateful to have lived for this long. Life is still fun!"

She likes going for rides, being with her kids, reading, sleeping, and of course, ice cream. "There is always time for ice cream," she adds.

Paul's got the beat!

Not only is he a wonderful member of the kitchen staff at Atria Maplewood Place, but he's also a professional drummer!

He recently brought the community's courtyard to life, transporting his drum set all the way from home to share his talents with residents.

"I started banging on pots and pans as a kid before taking lessons and eventually attending Berklee College of Music," he shares. Over the years, Paul has played in all kinds of bands and even does studio work when he can.

We are so fortunate when we get to see the amazing hidden talents of our team. Thanks for sharing your music with us, Paul!

"It was fun," shares Meredith, one of the residents who went for a ride. "I met others who shared my interests, and it renewed my love of biking. It brought out the adventurer in me! I can’t wait to do it again."

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we savored the flavors of Guatemala. Known as the birthplace of chocolate, Guatemalan cuisine blends Mayan tradition with Spanish influences to create vibrant and tasty dishes.

On the menu: tostones, guacamole, enchiladas, refried black beans, with cucumber salad, and tres leches cake.

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

Meet Candace! She is the heartbeat of our community and shares her love of Atria Willow Glen as both the President of our Resident Council and a Resident Ambassador. When she is not welcoming new neighbors to the community, she can be found needlepointing with friends, in the pool for her daily swim or teaching her very popular art class. Candace has said that teaching her class “…gives her great pleasure because it is a wonderful thing to see Atria friends succeed at something they have never tried before and didn’t know they could do.” After each class, people stay to chat and connect. She finds this, and all her volunteering very rewarding. Her spirit and enthusiasm make our community shine. Thank you for the joy you bring, Candace.
