Oral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being. The Board of Supervisors proclaimed February as National Children’s Dental Health Month. Fatemeh experienced a traumatic brain injury when she fell down some stairs. She came to the Rehabilitation Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for therapy and was soon able to return home. A year after her accident, Fatemeh is walking 2-3 miles a day and continues to work on building her concentration by reading. She credits her recovery to excellent rehabilitation services she received and the support of her family.

Congratulations to Linda Nguyen from our laboratory for being recognized by the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors as an Employee Excellence Award Honoree for January. As manager of hematology and coagulation at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Linda regularly reviews processes, works to standardize procedures, and trains staff. Her efforts have brought several critical tests in house that have led to decreased turnaround time and costs. Linda is committed to providing excellent care for patients and she sets an example through her diligent work ethic and nurturing respect for her staff.

Diagnostic cardiology services, like electrocardiograms (EKGs), echocardiograms, and exercise treadmill stress tests, are now available in South County. The services we’ve introduced at St. Louise Regional Hospital and Valley Health Center Morgan Hill fill a healthcare gap in the region and connect the community to a network of cardiovascular specialists, delivering more comprehensive care.

The Pediatric Developmental Specialty Center supports children and adolescents with developmental and behavioral needs and their families by providing a one-stop shop for comprehensive analysis, referrals, and follow up to get them on a path toward success. It’s a unique program dedicated to developmental behavioral pediatrics that is offered at four different clinic sites around the County.

According to the Burn Center staff at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, unattended cooking is a leading cause of home fires and burn injuries during the holidays. Make sure to stay home when the oven is on while cooking or baking.

Stay safe this season with these tips:
• Handle with Care: Always turn pot handles toward the back of the stove to prevent them from being knocked over.
• Clear the Area: Keep potholders, wooden utensils, and food packaging away from the stovetop.
• Create a "Kid-Free Zone": Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the stove and areas where hot food is prepared.

One of our Interventional Radiologists Rian Holayter, MD, was recognized by the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors as an Employee Excellence Award Honoree for December. Dr. Holayter consistently provides care with kindness and compassion. He has stepped up to ensure patients at Regional Medical Center have 24/7 access to high-quality Interventional Radiology services.

For five consecutive years, SCVMC has earned a High Performing designation for maternity care, which looks at our C-section rates, severe unexpected newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, and birthing-friendly practices, among other measures. Our Story

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) Hospital and Clinics is an integral part of the public healthcare delivery system in the County of Santa Clara, emphasizing quality care, research, teaching, innovation, and most importantly, a focus on a positive patient experience. Our mission is to provide high quality accessible healthcare and excellent service to all persons in County of Santa Clara County regardless of their social-economic status and ability to pay. SCVMC includes a tertiary level acute care hospital with 731 licensed beds, providing the highest level of adult and pediatric emergency medical and trauma services, a regional high risk Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, an ACS-verified Burn Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center, a CARF-accredited Rehabilitation Center, emergency and acute inpatient psychiatric services, as well as a range of other specialized services – in some cases the only such treatment in the region. The medical center hosts five highly competitive residency training programs and partners with Stanford University Medical Center for the training of residents and fellows in many Stanford-based specialties. SCVMC also offers high quality clinical training experiences for more than 30 non-physician healthcare professions, including exceptional clinical training for more than 1,000 Registered Nurses (RNs) annually. SCVMC provides a range of outpatient primary and specialty care services. Its large primary care network includes eight health centers located throughout the county, four urgent care clinics, comprehensive dental services and numerous community-based health services offering care to young adults, individuals experiencing homelessness, and other vulnerable members of our community. SCVMC also offers comprehensive specialty care outpatient services, including the Sobrato Cancer Center at Valley Specialty Center, a Renal Care Center, and a Diabetes Center. A critical healthcare delivery system for the region, in 2017 SCVMC care teams served more than 275,000 individuals, performed more than 10,000 surgeries, admitted 25,000 patients for acute inpatient hospital stays, delivered 3,200 babies, and provided more than 800,000 medical treatments in the ED and other outpatient settings. SCVMC is part of the County of Santa Clara Health System, the second-largest County-owned health and hospital system in California committed to improving the health of the 1.8 million residents of Santa Clara County.
