Urologic Surgery Speeds Recovery
Some physicians make it hard to draw a line between the healing arts and the healing sciences. Dr. Gholami has thousands of procedures’ worth of experience, performing such urological surgeries as prostatectomies and nephrectomies to treat patients for prostate and kidney cancers. And Dr. Gholami is among the world’s most renowned, most accomplished experts in performing robotic surgery. Smaller incisions lessen risk and promote faster recovery. Dr. Gholami says his minimally invasive vasectomy technique involves a single incision about the size of a blood donation site. It doesn’t even call for a suture. Long Experience With Robotics
There is artistry in this. Dr. Gholami expresses it through the science. He traveled to Paris for a fellowship in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. “This was in 2002,” he says. “When I came back, there were probably a handful of people in the entire U.S. Early on we operated with a one-armed robot that you spoke to. Then robotics evolved to a three-armed machine. We’re now in a fourth generation, with a four-armed DaVinci Xi robot.”
While he is recognized as an authority and has served in instructional roles, training others in robotic surgery, Dr. Gholami is now strictly a practicing physician. This is not the place where medical residents learn; this is the place where patients come for international-caliber treatment by a urologist who does this every day. “I don’t have a research center. That’s the university’s job. I have high numbers of patients. This is a pure private practice,” says Dr. Gholami. “A high level of experienced care, both surgical and medical, from beginning to end.”
All Areas of Urology
That care is for men and women, and in every area of urology, from kidney stones – blasting them with a laser or ultrasound waves – to overactive bladder to testosterone replacement to sexual problems, including erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease. The most sophisticated devices, the latest treatments, electronic records, excellence and experience in robotic and minimally invasive surgery – Dr. Gholami has created a practice on urology’s leading edge. “The newest and highest technologies,” he says. “The most advanced therapies available. These are what we provide our patients.”
