National Brush Day on November 1st reminds us all to follow the American Dental Association’s brushing guidelines. Sometimes the day is referred to as Brush Your Teeth Day.

The day follows Halloween, which traditionally is the single most significant day of candy consumption in the USA. The simple act of brushing your teeth twice daily for two minutes can have a substantial impact on cavity prevention. It also impacts a myriad of oral diseases such as gingivitis!

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL DENTAL HYGIENE MONTH:

Floss Every Day
There are things that brushing just can’t take care of, and that’s where flossing comes in. Make sure to floss every day after you brush!

Brush Twice a Day for Two Minutes
Brushing your teeth twice a day doesn’t only help battle morning breath and that lingering taste in your mouth, it also helps reduce the chances that you will develop gum disease. So every morning and every night, squeeze that toothpaste onto your toothbrush and get brushing, for two solid minutes.

Rinse With Mouthwash
Another thing that people think is optional with oral hygiene is mouthwash. But, according to dental hygienists, it shouldn’t be. Aim to make rinsing with mouthwash a regular occurrence after you brush and floss. This antimicrobial rinse will help keep your mouth clean and will do wonders for your breath.

Make sure give a big thank you to your hygienist when you see them at your next appointment!

The American Association of Orthodontists say that as many as 75% of Americans suffer from some level of “malocclusion,” which is an “irregular contact of opposing teeth in the upper and lower jaws.”

In other words, nearly three-fourths of Americans deal in some way with crooked and misplaced teeth.

in the old days, the standard practice was to use silver fillings in teeth. The problem is that these silver fillings are well known for cracking.

The good news is that advanced technology in bonding has produced bonding that is far superior to silver fillings. The new fillings bond tightly with your natural teeth in a way that was not possible before. As an extra benefit, in the rare instances when these fillings do crack they are far easier to repair.
Recent studies have found several weaknesses in silver fillings.
➖They can eventually crack due to the constant expanding and contracting metal that is found in silver fillings.
➖Silver fillings tend to wear around the edges. This causes them to become weak over time. This weakness can even cause them to break.
➖If that silver filling does break, it will leave the tooth exposed and make it vulnerable to additional cavities.
➖A silver filling contains 50% mercury. It may possible corrode and leak which will eventually cause your teeth and gums to become stained.
