Pain is common in pregnancy, but it’s not random 💥

Your body is going through real, physical changes:
- Your pelvis becomes more mobile
- Your center of gravity shifts
- Your core & breathing mechanics adapt

And when all of that happens at once, your body has to work a lot harder to stay stable and supported!

With the right approach, focusing on strength, movement, and support, you can feel a lot better throughout pregnancy.

What is hyper-mobility & can chiropractic help?

When your joints move beyond what’s considered a normal range of motion, we call that hyper-mobility.

Chiropractic care is known for the adjustments we perform to bring motion into a hypo-mobile (reduced range of motion) joint.
So what do we do if the joint is already moving too much?

1. Loosen the tight muscles that compensate for the excessive movement
2. Strengthen the soft tissue around the joint to help stabilize it

At my office, it’s not always about the snap, crackle, and pop! Sometimes it’s better to look at the whole picture of a patient, in order to create an individualized approach that better assess what the patient needs 🌿

If it wasn’t obvious already, I love a good cup of coffee ☕️

With my pregnant patients who also share the same obsession, they’ve often heard that drinking caffeine can increase the risk of miscarriage, can harm the baby’s development in utero, and even small amounts effect their birth weight. So they quit coffee all together.

I’m here to announce that research has shown that consuming 200 mg or less of caffeine, is considered safe in healthy pregnancies!

So what does that actually look like during pregnancy?
* 8 oz brewed coffee: ~95–165 mg
* 1 oz espresso shot: ~63–75 mg
(A typical latte with 2 shots = ~120–150 mg)
* 8 oz cold brew: ~100–200 mg (can be higher depending on strength)
* 8 oz instant coffee: ~60–90 mg
• 8 oz decaf: ~2–8 mg (yes, still a little caffeine!)

Always make sure you speak to your medical provider when looking at general guidelines, and know that your health should never be about fear, but rather awareness 💛

Huge shoutout to for this sweet gift!

Lily, owner of Ellifont Design, created the logo for my website, The Maternal Motion (link in bio 😉). Our vibe was warm, floral, inviting, with a coffee theme (hence the blog’s name, Morning Pour). Her talent and ability to bring to life my chaotic vision, really proves how amazing she is at her work!

So it only makes sense that I have a coffee cup with my logo on it. This will be a forever staple at the office. Thank you Lily!

Time to celebrate another small win 🎉

My patient had to visit me twice this week for a mid back muscle spasm that just wouldn’t give up. Today’s visit was successful after we released her intercostal muscles and adjusted her ribs!

She was able to get off of the treatment table without pain and later let me know that getting in and out of her car were no longer bothersome.

We always like to celebrate the big successes, but make sure to create room for the small ones. When the mundane activities become impossible, we often realize that we shouldn’t take them for granted 😝

SO glad to hear she’s doing better, as this text definitely put a smile on my face!

Three things I wish my patients knew, before coming into my office:

1. Don’t let pain be the only reason you get treated! Injury prevention is SUPER beneficial & better for your wallet 😏

2. Treating you once isn’t going to do much. Sure, it might feel good & sometimes even does the trick! But we’re working to figure out root causes, not symptom fixes

3. How you treat your body in between visits might just be more important than the treatment itself! Maintain healthy habits through a good diet, mobility work, stretching, & exercise in order to reinforce the work we do in office

Not a fun topic, but an important one.

Today I wanted to get into what’s really going on when we hear “does chiropractic cause strokes?”

It’s all about presenting research based facts, and alleviating any fears or misinformation that often circles this topic.

As a chiropractor, I tend to hear these phrases a lot…

“I slept wrong”
“Can you crack this one spot really quick?”
“My low back hurts”

… but it’s so much more than that!

It’s less about chasing symptoms and more about understanding patterns.
Our bodies are great at speaking to us, we just need to listen ✨

Is it sciatica or is it just a tight 🍑
Let’s find out!

I often hear my patients talk about having sciatica, when they really have piriformis syndrome.

Good news is: chiropractic care can treat both!
But it helps to know which one you’re dealing with, in order to find the right treatment plan for you.

Got a tight t**h? I can help with that! 🤓

“How often do I need to see my chiropractor?” 👩🏻‍⚕️
A question I get all of the time.

Let’s break it down, as it depends on what you need…

If you have an active injury, I may be seeing you a bit more frequently in the beginning of care, & then as you heal, taper you off.

My goal has & always will be: to treat my patients less & less.
I adore all of my patients & would love to see them often, but I want them to be independent when it comes to their health. This means that they’ve reached maintenance care, & I get to be their guide along the way!

Just like the dentist, you should technically see your chiropractor forever. But forever doesn’t mean every day 😉

Common 🙅🏻‍♀️ Normal

Often times I hear patients say that their practitioners call their pain “normal”. Maybe the better term is ✨common✨

Some examples of common pain include:
- Low back & pelvic pain during pregnancy
- Neck pain & headaches from poor work posture
- Repetitive hip clicking in runners

By describing pain as normal, we are downplaying the patient’s experience & discomfort.
Some might not even seek out treatment, because they thought “normal” meant that nothing that can be done about it!

Common causes of pain are never normal experiences for people, but rather the body trying to tell us something.

Let’s do better by rethinking our vocabulary— our patients will thank us 😉

Let’s clarify some things on what manual adjustments can and can’t do! 🦴

Contrary to what you might think…
- They don’t move the bones
- They don’t crack the bones
- And we don’t recommend you to try to be your own chiropractor either 😜

I’m all about full transparency and education with my patients.
