IICA Speech

We recently expanded our in-clinic services to Roseville, CA and Kalispell, Montana.

IICA Speech is an adult and pediatric speech and language, feeding, and occupational therapy clinic which has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1998. IICA provides compassionate Speech, Feeding, and Occupational Therapy for children and families. Our focus is on personalized care, meaningful progress, and partnership with parents throughout the journey. We believe every child has a voice and deserves the opportunity to communicate, connect, and thrive. Our mission is to support families with expertise, empathy, and evidence-based care. We have two clinics in Northern California located in San Jose and Roseville, and we also have a location in Kalispell, MT. We are one big IICA family, servicing children and communities across our three locations.

Everyday routines are full of opportunities to support communication, and you don’t need structured activities to make a difference. 💛

Here are four simple, affirming strategies families can use during play, mealtimes, bath time, or even while getting ready in the morning:
✨ Parallel talk: describe what you are doing
✨ Expansion: gently add a word or two to your child’s communication
✨ Modeling without expectation: show new language or actions without asking them to copy you
✨ Wait time: pause and give your child space to communicate in their own way

These strategies aren’t about “fixing” speech or aiming for more words, they’re about building trust, supporting connection, and honoring the many ways children communicate. 🌱💛

Every child develops in their own way, and every timeline is valid. 💛
Still, milestones can be helpful for families who want to understand what skills often emerge between ages 1–3.

Below are some speech, language, and occupational therapy milestones gathered from trusted resources such as the CDC’s Learn the Signs. Act Early. program and ASHA developmental guidelines.

✨ General guideline:
Milestones are not diagnostic, and it’s normal for children to show strengths in some areas and take more time in others. If you notice your child is missing several milestones in their age range, check in with a licensed SLP or OT for support. 🌱

Every child deserves to feel understood, supported, and celebrated, no matter their pace. 💛
