It's starting to get a little warm here in the Bay Area for Hot Chocolate, so if you do celebrate this day with a warm cup, make sure to do it right! Warm milk (not water), add a touch of cinnamon, a drop or two of vanilla, throw in some pumpkin spice if you still have some left over from fall, enough for the warm memories to tide you over until next winter.

The best part of running this social media account is finding out about all these fun holidays. As a great appreciator of hugs, I think this has to be one of my favorite days of the year! Beyond just making you feel happy and connected, hugs have been shown to improve heart health, reduce stress, boost the immune system, and keep you warm on these cold days :)

January is National Blood Donor Month, and I am proud to be a blood donor! Not everybody can donate blood, but I encourage everyone to check if they are eligible and to donate frequently if they are. There is no better way to make an impact on the world and also get a free cookie and OJ at the same time.

This is the 2 week Resolution Check In; be honest, how many have you kept? One of my resolutions was to make more effort to spend time with friends and loved ones. Family both given and chosen. I think I'm doing ok so far, but there's still a lot more year to go. What are you bringing with you into 2025?

January is Bath Safety Month. More than 300 people get injured in the bathroom every day, and estimtes point to over 2/3rds of those injuries happen in or near the bath. Slips and falls are dangerous enough for seniors even without wet porcelain and metal around. Using a non-slip mat in the tub or installing a grab bar in the shower can greatly reduce the chance of injury.

Inspire Your Heart with Art Day! Try it out! Draw a doodle, make an origami crane, take a striking photo of the sunset, even dance is an art form. Don't worry about the result or "doing it right", take joy in the act of creation and expression.

Happy New Years! As this holiday season winds to an end (although Kwanzaa and Hanukkah still have a day or so left) I like to take a moment of quiet contemplation to consider the year I've just had and the one I want to have next. Not tonight though, tonight is for fireworks and togetherness.
