A study published in the American Journal of Physiology Endocrinology and
Metabolism tested what happened when people consumed just 50 grams of the artificial sweetener xylitol. The result was bloating and diarrhea in 70% of participants. When they tested erythritol at 75 grams, 60% of people experienced the exact same symptoms.
These are not obscure lab sweeteners. Xylitol and erythritol are in your chewing gum, your protein bars, your sugar-free drinks, your "healthy" ice cream, and dozens of products marketed specifically to people who are trying to make better choices.
