Women’s Wellness Wednesdays!! I’m thrilled to announce that we’re bringing these events back into our clinic this Fall. It’s been awhile since the pandemic, my diagnosis and just life. But having a place to gather and seek community and education just warms my heart.

💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛

And I’m looking forward to seeing this one kick off this month.
Please join us for a 3 part series on menopause. The first one will discuss all the possible symptoms you may be experiencing and what your options are moving through the transition. And that you’ll want to start learning about this earlier than you think!!

If you haven’t been in recently, take a peak at our new offerings and additions to the clinic. I know I’m looking forward to returning to the regenerative space we created over 5 years ago. ✨💫
I’m just finishing up my scheduled cancer treatments this summer and am very hopeful to return to the clinic and my passion of helping people return to what they love doing. I have definitely been feeling the pull to return as I truly enjoy helping so many of you and the connections I feel when in the clinic.
Looking forward to all this year has in store for us at with the new additions. ❤️❤️

Happy Halloween 🎃2022🎃

My liver resection surgery was originally scheduled for Oct 31st. I wanted…no I needed it to be a few days later so I could spend this day with my family doing all the traditional Halloween things we do. And we did. We got the pumpkin patch in. We carved our pumpkins. Taylor and I decorated our pumpkins with succulents. And trick or treating was a success ✅

I’m thankful to have been there for these moments and know there are going to be some I miss moving forward. But the goodbye family hugs and kisses this morning were extra sweet and tearful.
A friend recently said she always thinks of a positive scene in her head when she’s just about to go under for a surgery and now I have a few more sweet ones to add. ❤️

This is me.

Thought I’d take a moment to re-introduce myself during a new challenging stage of my life.

Mother of two, wife of 14 years to my college sweetheart, physical therapist and healer for 16 years, business owner for 6 years, athlete, friend, daughter, sister, and currently fighting a new cancer diagnosis.

About a month ago I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer called cholangiocarcinoma. I’ve since been caught up in a whirlwind of appointments, imaging, tests, phone calls and emails trying to find the best care and plan of action. Because of the placement of the tumor I will need to have about 2/3 of my liver surgically removed and I have found the best team of doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Unfortunately it will take many months, flights, and surgeries to get me where I need to be and at this point everything is out of pocket. My friends and family have rallied around me and come up with so many ways to help me fight this fight. They have blown me away with the thoughtfulness of flowers, calls, meals, farmer’s market runs, texts, running/hiking in my honor, prayers, donations, gifts and setting up ways for others to donate. I have been surrounded in love, prayer and support which has lifted my spirits in being able to fight this diagnosis. They have also set up .melia and a Caringbridge site for ways to continue to support me if you feel inclined.
Thank you again to my endless support crew!

TEAMWORK

Often in my practice I refer out or suggest that we need to have a team approach as multiple practitioners and coaches are necessary for a full recovery.
battles and I have shared many clients/patients over the years and I enjoy working the team approach with her to bring our athletes back to their sport postpartum. It really does take a village.

And I’m proud of the messaging and work that .battles has been sharing with the pre and postpartum athletes and love that she’s offering this debrief to the community coming up soon. Please check out this free resource if you have questions about re**us diastasis (abdominal separation). There can be a lot of bad messaging out there and turning to a reputable source is helpful. And seeing a pelvic floor PT in person is even better!!

⭐️🏐⭐️🏐⭐️🏐⭐️🏐⭐️🏐⭐️
Our most memorable high level postpartum athlete this last year was who went on to win gold with the Womens Olympic volleyball team. With a very significant diastasis postpartum and a timeline to get back to competitive play we all had our work cut out for us. Foluke needed the proper guidance of when to push and when to slow down. With our teamwork, we were able to create a safe environment for her to return to her high level of sport and activity. But she needed guidance…and from multiple sources. Teamwork is so crucial.

BREATHING - always a foundational intervention that I educate patients on.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is inspired by a recent conversation with a patient, but is a common conversation I have with many of the ladies who walk through my doors. I give lots of education on breath work, diaphragmatic breathing and the importance of not holding your breath for pelvic floor health. A very common question I receive after going over breath mechanics is “Wait, so I’m not supposed to suck my belly in all day?” 😳😳😳

😤😤😤

Do you see babies or toddlers suck their bellies in all day? Some where along the way we start to alter our breath mechanics…a prior injury, a stressful event, society pressures. The belly should rise during inhale and fall during exhale. Watch a baby breath, we’re meant to have movement there. We should use our core functionally and when needed. If we’re constantly “sucking” it in our core can’t be used efficiently or in a dynamic way when we need it. And it alters how our pelvic floor and diaphragm are recruited. This can show up down the line in a multitude of ways such as low back pain, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, anxiety, and even acid reflux.
So let it go and start breathing at your full capacity. And if this is mind boggling to you reach out to me or find a pelvic floor PT who can help you start breathing to your fullest again!
