🐴 Why Horses Heal: A Special Veterans Day Opportunity

Did you know veterans face PTSD rates up to 30%—three times higher than civilians?
Traditional talk therapy doesn't always reach where trauma lives: in the body, the stress response, the places where words fail.

That's where horses come in.

Here's what makes equine-assisted therapy so powerful:
When you're near a horse, your heart rhythms can actually sync with theirs, shifting you into a calmer state. Horses are incredibly sensitive—they sense and reflect your tension, fear, or calm, giving you honest feedback without judgment.

The relationship is built on presence, not words. You don't have to explain anything. You don't have to defend your feelings. You just have to show up.

And the results speak for themselves.

A Columbia University study of 63 veterans found:
✅ 50.7% improvement in PTSD symptoms
✅ 47% decrease in depression scores
✅ 94% engagement rate
✅ Actual brain changes visible on imaging

Through simple activities like brushing, leading, and just being with horses, veterans learn to notice tension, practice calming down, build trust, and experience safety in their bodies again.

This Veterans Day, we're offering 20 veterans a FREE opportunity to experience this for yourself.

You can't fake your emotional state around a horse. They teach you to be present, to notice what your body is telling you, and to find calm in ways that words never could.

Healing happens at the level of the body. Horses meet you there. 💚

How do you know what you know? 🤔

In therapy, we often return to the basics, foundations many of us never had the chance to build or may have lost along the way.

✨ What do you value?
✨ What do you like or not like?
✨ What feels life-giving…and what drains you?
✨ How do you recognize a “yes” or a “no” in your body?

For many trauma survivors, especially those healing from complex or relational trauma, these inner signals can get lost beneath years of conditioning, painful dynamics, or experiences where choice wasn’t safe.

When that happens, we start looking outside ourselves for answers: family, friends, society, religion, teachers, even oracle cards. None of these are wrong (they are actually often really important and life giving!), AND healing asks us to also rebuild trust in our body’s own communication system.

When you learn to listen to your inner compass, you begin to create stability and safety in your nervous system. From there, life becomes more grounded, more vital, and more yours.

✅ So tell us: How do you know a YES in your body?

Share below 👇 We’d love to hear how your intuition speaks to you!

Sometimes the best therapy doesn't happen on a couch. Sometimes it happens in an arena. 🐴💛

If you've ever been around horses, you know—they have this way of slowing you down, of making you present. They don't care about your to-do list or what you said in that meeting.

They just want to know: How are you, right now, in this moment?

That's the heart of equine-assisted therapy. Horses are incredibly intuitive. They pick up on our emotions, our energy, even the things we're trying to hide. And in their calm, non-judgmental presence, something shifts. We start to breathe deeper. We soften. We reconnect.

We'd love to invite you to experience this for yourself.

What if healing could happen while watching the trees sway outside your window?

There's something powerful about nature. Not just the big, obvious moments—standing on a mountaintop or walking through a forest—but the quiet, everyday connections too. The houseplant you water each morning. The bird that visits your feeder. The way the light shifts through the clouds.

That's the heart of EcoTherapy.

Research shows that nature exposure reduces stress hormones, lowers blood pressure, and helps ease anxiety and depression. But you don't need to live near a national park to experience these benefits.

At Walk Intuit, our therapists bring EcoTherapy into nearly every session, even online.

Maybe that looks like noticing the life of a plant in your home, or anchoring into the feeling of the earth beneath your feet, or simply reflecting on what you can see from your window.

EcoTherapy can happen anywhere: through mindful connection with natural objects, indoor plants, or even just looking at nature images.

The goal? To help you build internal resources so you can navigate the hard stuff—the big feelings, the frustrations, the fears—with more groundedness and resilience. To help you find those pockets of joy and meaning, even on the days that feel impossible.

You don't have to do it alone. And you don't have to wait for perfect conditions.

Leo’s back!! ✨

Leo made it through surgery, and yesterday he made his way back home to the ranch.

Leo has walked alongside many of you in your healing, and these past few weeks our community walked alongside him.

This is what resilience looks like. Not the absence of struggle, but the courage to move through it. 🧡

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and sent healing energy. We’re still raising funds to cover the surgery and recovery costs—every contribution helps us continue this work.

🐴 Still need: $2,585.75

💙 A HUGE thank you to the Lion's Heart-Teen Volunteers and Leaders!!

Yesterday, this incredible team descended on our Orange Park Acres location and completely transformed our space. They tackled a full site cleanup, lovingly cared for our horses, refreshed our driveway, and gave our chicken coop a much-needed deep clean.

The dedication, teamwork, and genuine care they brought reminded us (once again!) that volunteers aren't just helpers, they're family. To Lionheart and every single person who volunteers with us: we see you, we appreciate you, and we couldn't do this work without you. ❤️

Inspired to get involved?
We welcome volunteer groups of all kinds, teens earning service hours, adult groups looking for team-building with purpose, families wanting to give back together, or individuals seeking meaningful volunteer work.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we want you to know something:
Your reaction makes sense.

Maybe you’ve been called “too sensitive” or “overreacting.” Maybe you’ve wondered why you can’t just “get over it.” Maybe you’ve felt like everyone else has it figured out except you.

Here’s the truth: Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year. Half of us will develop a mental health disorder at some point in our lives. You’re not alone. You’re not broken. And you don’t have to have all the answers to deserve support.

Trauma-informed care doesn’t ask “what’s wrong with you?” but instead asks “what happened to you?” That shift changes everything.

Read our latest blog post (link in bio) about why trauma-informed treatment creates space for real, lasting change, and, how you can get help today.

Your story matters. Your healing matters. You matter.
