So my prostate cancer has metastasized to my bladder. September 2023 the doctor went in and did A trans urethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) is usually the first treatment you have for non muscle invasive bladder cancer. Your surgeon removes the tumour in your bladder through the urethra. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of your body.

Make sure they give you antibiotics for infections. Have someone in the doctor appointment with you when speaking with the doctor. This is every important so that you get all the information up front and you have a witness.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Though prostate cancer may not receive as much media attention as breast cancer, it is nearly as common, affecting about 1 in 8 men in their lifetime.

This year, about 288,300 men will be newly diagnosed with prostate cancer, more than any type of cancer aside from skin cancer, and about 34,700 men will die from prostate cancer—the most deaths from any cancer in men after lung.*

Receiving proper health screenings can be lifesaving. Unfortunately, research shows that men are less likely to visit their primary care doctor than women. A 2022 survey by the Cleveland Clinic revealed that more than half of men surveyed said they do not receive regular health screenings, and 77 percent of men did not know their complete family history regarding urological issues.

Prostate Cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the United States and 1 in 4 men from a Black African or Caribbean background and 1 in 12 men Asian men and particular emphasis will be put on reaching out to men in those communities. Men aged 40 and over or with a family history of prostate cancer are more at risk of getting prostate cancer. Understanding disparities and the importance of early screening
This September, during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the second most common cancer to affect men.1

This year, more than 288,000 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.1 The risk is even higher for Black men, with one in six men developing the disease.2 The good news is that prostate cancer can be treated successfully, especially when caught early.2

Racial Disparities in Diagnosis & Treatment
The patient advocacy group ZERO Prostate Cancer reports that a new prostate cancer diagnosis occurs every 13 minutes in the Black community.2 Black men are 1.7 times more likely to be diagnosed and 2.1 times more likely to die from prostate cancer than White men.2

Testing rates are lower for Black men,2 as societal, lifestyle and environmental risks are higher.3 In addition to race, risks include age, poor nutrition and family incidence of prostate cancer.4 However, many Black men face longer delays between diagnosis and treatment, potentially due to mistrust in the healthcare system, lack of information on prostate cancer and social stigmas associated with the disease.5
