Between The Ears

Between The Ears I guide middle aged professionals & seniors to feel comfortable in their skin, and age confidently with strength, health, and vitality

I don’t just coach health—I live it. Over 35 years ago, I lost 70 lbs and have never gained it back. At 40, I was diagnosed with MS, yet today—at almost 59—I thrive without medication. I help busy middle aged professionals and seniors prevent or reverse lifestyle-related chronic disease through personalized coaching, safe and effective training, and real-life strategies that work. If you want to build strength, improve mobility, and age with confidence, I’m here to help you do it—because I’ve done it myself.

✨ What’s Your SMART Vision for Your Health and Well-Being? ✨

Too often, we set health goals that are vague: “I want to eat better.” “I should exercise more.” But clarity is power. That’s why I guide my clients to create SMART goals:

🔹 Specific – What exactly will you do?

🔹 Measurable – How will you know you’ve succeeded?

🔹 Achievable – Is it realistic right now?

🔹 Relevant – Does it align with your values and vision?

🔹 Time-bound – By when will you complete it?

SMART goals transform intentions into actionable roadmaps—and when combined with a personal vision for health and well-being, they become a powerful driver of lasting change.

I’ll be diving into this topic in an interactive community conversation:

Stop Labeling Foods as “Good” or “Bad”

Have you ever said, “I was good today” or “I was bad because I ate that”? Many of us grew up with the idea that certain foods are virtuous while others are sinful. The truth is, food has no moral value.

When we label food as good or bad:

✔ We create guilt and shame around eating.

✔ We fall into all-or-nothing thinking (“I blew it, so why bother?”).

✔ We feel anxious at mealtimes instead of enjoying them.

Here’s the good news:

When you see all food as valuable, you can:

✅ Improve your relationship with eating.

✅ Reduce stress and ditch the guilt.

✅ Make room for balance and variety.

3 Ways to Change Your Mindset:

1️⃣ Use neutral language (drop “cheat meal” and just say “meal”).

2️⃣ Pay attention to how food makes you feel—not just the calories.

3️⃣ Focus on adding more nutritious foods instead of strict restriction.

Your health is about the big picture, not one single food choice.

Not all “healthy” foods are blood sugar friendly.

A client of mine—who’s tracking her blood glucose with a BGM—recently shared something insightful. She snacked on some whole grain Triscuit crackers, thinking they’d be a stable, low-impact choice.

To her surprise? Blood sugar spike.

This is a powerful reminder that:

Whole grain doesn’t always mean low glycemic

Individual responses to food can vary significantly.

Monitoring and curiosity lead to better choices.

As a health coach, I encourage clients to experiment, observe, and ask questions—not follow one-size-fits-all rules.

🔍 Have you ever been surprised by how your body reacted to something you thought was “healthy”? Let’s keep learning from each other.
