Earlier this week, our very own Njeri McGee-Tyner joined Bay Area healthcare leaders—including our member health center Asian Health Services and the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley—in Oakland to highlight the importance of securing health coverage during Covered California's Open Enrollment period, which runs through January 31, 2026.
“People are facing some hard choices … some will have to switch to generic (medications) or see a new provider, but that may be a better option than paying triple their premium.” - shared Njeri
Njeri and our Healthcare Access team work hand‑in‑hand with our community health centers every day to help individuals navigate the increasingly complex landscape of healthcare and safety‑net program enrollment—challenges that continue to grow amid federal funding cuts and shifting access to care.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—a leader who reminded us that justice, dignity, and compassion are not optional values, but moral imperatives.
Dr. King’s vision lives on in our commitment to equitable, accessible, and compassionate care for all. Access to healthcare is a civil right. When we work to eliminate disparities, listen to our communities, and stand up for those most impacted by injustice, we carry his work forward.
On this Day, let us recommit ourselves to service, to courage, and to the belief that together we can build healthier communities rooted in respect and humanity.

Rising healthcare premiums hit low-income and working Californians the hardest—putting affordable care further out of reach. But the impact goes far beyond coverage. As premiums climb, families are forced to make impossible tradeoffs between healthcare, rent, groceries, and peace of mind. Many are already making these difficult decisions.

Our own Njeri McGee-Tyner, Senior Director of Healthcare Access, highlights this growing confusion and anxiety in a recent The The New York Times, drawing directly from what patients across our member community health centers are experiencing. Njeri and her Healthcare Access team work alongside our every day to help people navigate the increasingly complex process of enrolling in healthcare and safety-net programs—challenges that are only intensifying amid federal cuts and shifting access to care.

Violence is a public health issue and organizations rooted within communities like our member health centers are positioned to address unstable situations before violence breaks out. Recently our member Asian Health Services & Baywell Health Community joined other partners at the Alameda County Board of supervisors special joint meeting of the Health and Public Protection Committees to provide updates on their violence prevention efforts, which includes their multi-year Asian-Black Racial Healing Project - this is part of an ongoing public health project by the county.

Our member do so much for our community members. They deliver comprehensive care to all who walk through their doors as well as provide wraparound services. They are the backbone of the safety net care delivery to our most vulnerable populations. But it doesn’t stop there! Our member like Bay Area Community Health (BACH) find even more ways to give back to our communities. Recently BACH joined the “Giving Back to the Local Community Together” event hosted by the Association of Indo Americans (AIA) in Fremont. Alongside community leaders, first responders, and volunteers, BACH helped with food security and local wellness initiatives. A powerful reminder of what’s possible when we come together to uplift our community! Thank you to BACH CEO Dr. Zettie Page for his incredible leadership and to BACH for always going above and beyond. 🩷 👏

Help us protect 340B! "A timely diagnosis means little without access to affordable medication. As a pharmacist at a community health center, I witness firsthand how the 340B program transforms lives. This program allows us to stretch every dollar, keep our doors open, and deliver the high-quality, compassionate care our patients deserve. 340B is not just a program—it’s a lifeline for patients and communities." – Dolly Davar, Pharmacy Director, La Clínica de La Raza
The 340B Drug Pricing Program is facing its biggest threat yet. With the potential to impact our CHCs' ability to provide access to affordable medication for its patients. Our Story

The Alameda Health Consortium was founded in the early 1970s as a nonprofit organization to advocate for and support community-based health centers in Alameda County. Community health centers rose in the 1960s and 1970s as part of a national movement to address the health care needs of low-income communities that were not being met by the mainstream health care system.

Since our founding, we have grown as a regional association of eight community-based, private, nonprofit federally qualified health centers (FQHCs). Together, our member health centers operate more than 95 clinic locations that serve more than 270,000 people.

Our member health centers formed the Community Health Center Network (CHCN) in 1996 to participate more effectively in newly-launched state managed care programs. The formation of CHCN was built upon over 20 years of collaboration in health policy and advocacy work through the Alameda Health Consortium. Together, we’re both committed to excellent, affordable care for underserved communities of the East Bay.
