Since graduating, Heather has more availability in her schedule and is now taking on a few new clients.

Meet Laura Westmoreland, LMFT, CST

Laura is a new therapist offering telehealth at Thrive and here’s what she says about working with her:

Recently, someone asked me about my specialty. I paused...I considered rambling off a list of my education, certifications, theoretical orientations, and multiple licenses...all the things that qualified me to be a therapist. But really, my specialty comes down to one thing...the ability to build relationships. I am a firm believer that it is the relationship that you and I build that brings about change, growth, and healing. Just like in life, no two relationships are the same. YOU have the owner's manual of you...I merely help you figure it out...and I do that by building a relationship with authentic you.

Therapy with me is about connection...which requires vulnerability. Brené Brown said, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they're never weakness." I don't expect you to trust me right away; it takes time to build a relationship.

The relationship we build will be a bit skewed because I will know a lot more about you than you will know about me...but, you can ask me anything...I may or may not answer, but you can ask! Also, I am a firm believer that everything and anything has therapeutic "value"...let's talk about it and see what it means to you...to your life.

I work with individuals, couples, and families, via telehealth, to provide support for your lived experience. Some of the issues I work with are related to relationships, sexuality, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, procrastination, and body image.

Happy New Year!

12 Days of Thriving Tip #12

♥️”You are loved” ♥️

♥️Whenever you feel anxious or unsure, whisper these words to yourself.
♥️And when that voice starts to argue that it’s not true, remind yourself that everyone is worthy of love and that you can love yourself and that’s what matters.
♥️The more you say it, the more you believe it.

Stay thriving!
With love,

Happy New Year’s Eve!
12 Days of Thriving Tip #11

💧Hydrate!

💧Probably the most simple tip we have for you is to be sure you’re staying well hydrated. Dehydration, even at the most minor level, can mimic depression and cause difficulty concentrating.

💧So regardless of your plans for celebration this New Year’s Eve, make sure you take good care of your body and mind today and every day!

Stay thriving!

12 Days of Thriving Tip #10
Phone a Friend

Reach out to someone who cares about you today. Finding connection with others is an important way to feel safe and also can reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.

Our favorite option: go on a walk and talk hike with someone you trust. Take turns talking about what you each feel proud of from the past year.

Can’t see a friend or loved one in person? Try the phone! Hearing someone’s voice adds to the sense of connection!

Can’t think of anyone you feel like connecting with? Snuggle a furry friend and feel the gratitude you have for them! Or watch videos of adorable animals to get similar benefits!

Stay thriving!

12 Days of Thriving Tip #9
Take A Breath

When you find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or upset, check your breathing. We often hold or constrict our breath when feeling strong emotions. We can help our body relax by focusing back on our breath.

Here are two different breathwork options for you today:

Box breathing:
Picture yourself tracing the sides of a square box shape as you:
➡️Breathe in for 4 seconds
⬇️Hold for 4 seconds
⬅️Breathe out for 4 seconds
⬆️Hold for 4 seconds
🎁Repeat 4 times (or as needed)

Long Exhale:
🌬️Beging by exhaling everything out of your lungs
🌬️Take a nice slow inhale (maybe counting to 4 or 5)
🌬️Exhale twice as slowly as you inhaled (count to 8 or 10)
🌬️Find a pace that feels comfortable for you and repeat a few times!

These breathwork options can help you reset your nervous system!

12 Days of Thriving Tip #8
🛁Wash Your Worries Away🛁

Hop in the shower or take a bath. If you don’t have time, you can rinse your hands in the sink.

Breathe deeply and focus on the sensation of water on your skin. Notice how the water feels as far as:
💧Temperature
💧Texture
💧Pressure

Imagine the water carrying all of your worries out of your body and down the drain. Name your worries and picture them washing away as you watch the water go down the drain.

*Bonus tip: If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere where you can get in the ocean, or a river, or under a waterfall, this is a fantastic way to get mood boosting negative ions while doing this grounding technique. Maybe remember to try this one sometime when you’re on vacation or the weather is better 😉

12 Days of Thriving Tip #7
Stretch: Make a Rainbow

🌈Stand up tall, with your hands at your sides
🌈You can do this sitting or lying down if you prefer
🌈Imagine you have paintbrushes in both hands
🌈Take a deep breath and bring those hands all the way out at your sides and then over your head to meet
🌈Imagine you are painting a gorgeous rainbow over you
🌈Exhale slowly out your mouth and bring your arms back down to your sides, retracing the rainbow
🌈Repeat 3 times
🌈If you feel like moving more, play with what feels good: moving and stretching your body and painting rainbows in swirls and patterns with your fingertips

12 Days of Thriving Tip #6

🌤Take a hike.🌤

☀️Or a walk.

☀️Just make sure that you get outside for at least 15 minutes of daylight and movement today.

☀️Together, these two are some of the simplest and most effective ways to improve mood and reduce stress.

☀️See if you can take a few moments and notice all of the sights, sounds, feels, and smells of nature as well. The greens and blues in nature are especially soothing for us! 🌲🌊

Stay thriving!

🎄Christmas Day🎄

12 Days of Thriving Tip #5

🎶Sing🎶

Or hum.

Or Om.

Or sigh out loud.

Each of these actions activates your vagus nerve, which is associated with improved mood, emotion regulation, attention, stress response and reduced inflammation.

So exercise your vagal tone by taking a few minutes to sing out loud in the car or shower every day!

Keep thriving!
