Today, after years of tireless advocacy, we are proud to share that the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the FASD Respect Act as part of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 (H.R. 2483)โ€”a monumental milestone in national Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders ( ) policy.

This bipartisan victory brings us one step closer to a comprehensive federal response to FASD. For the first time, agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be empowered to:

โค๏ธ Promote FASD education and public awareness

๐ŸŽ Expand support across State and Tribal systems

๐Ÿ‘  Establish Centers for Excellence to prevent prenatal alcohol exposure and support individuals across the lifespan

As Susan Shepard Carlson, former FASD United Board Chair, shared:
โ€œIn the annals of FASD advocacy over the years, the passage of FASD authorization by the U.S. House of Representatives is truly historic and a huge victory for the FASD field.โ€

We extend our deepest gratitude to Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Representatives Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-MN), and Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE) for their leadership, and to the countless advocates across the country who made this moment possible.

The journey isnโ€™t overโ€”we continue to fight for FASD supports to be fully written into law. But today, we celebrate a turning point.
