ā€œMental health is not only an individual journey, it is shaped and strengthened by the communities we build. Healing begins when connection replaces isolation.ā€
— Jeannette, FCNI Therapist/Program Supervisor

This Mental Health Awareness Month, our staff is reflecting on the power of community in supporting mental health. Connection—whether through a conversation, a shared experience, or by simply showing up—is often the first step toward healing.

Together, we can break the silence, reduce stigma, and remind one another that support is not only necessary but should always be available. šŸ’š

Stigma grows in silence. Healing begins in community. šŸ’š

This May, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we invite you to be part of an important
conversation. Sharing openly about mental health journeys, struggles, and needs helps break down stigma and creates space for understanding, support, and healing.

Whether it’s checking in on a friend, sharing your story, or listening with compassion, every action matters. Together, we can build a community where no one chooses silence over support.

We'd love for you to share your story and your support in the comments!

We are incredibly grateful to the Chumash Foundation for their generous grant supporting more housing for current/former foster youth in Santa Barbara County.

Chumash Foundation funding will allow Family Care Network to build additional units at an existing property in Santa Barbara County, providing safe, stable housing for young people as they pursue education and career pathways, develop stronger the life skills, and achieve their goals for long-term independence.

Moments like this—captured with our CEO, housing team, and the Chumash Foundation's Philanthropy Manager —represent what’s possible when they community comes together for a shared goal. Together, we're excited to see more youth find safety and support.

Thank you, Chumash Foundation, for investing in brighter futures. šŸ’™

As we close out Child Abuse Prevention Month, we’re reflecting on the many ways prevention shows up in our work every day.

For our Housing team, it’s about more than responding to challenges. They're dedicated to equipping our families with the skills they need to thrive. As Marie, our Manager of Housing Programs, shares:

ā€œSupporting families through building financial literacy skills… empowers them to meet their needs and create healthy, safe habits.ā€

By helping families build these skills, we’re creating lasting change. We're supporting stability, strengthening relationships, and helping prevent future crises before they begin.

Thank you for being part of this work. šŸ’™

Small tokens express big feelings. šŸ’™

At a recent Wellness Committee event, our staff took time to slow down and get creative, gathering together to make colorful clay magnets inspired by the things they love—whether it was a butterfly, a favorite anime character, or even a fried egg!

These simple creations gave our team a chance to express themselves, connect, and recharge--all necessary steps for good self-care.

Because we know that when we care for ourselves, we can better care for our community. šŸ¦‹ šŸ³šŸ›

Meet Haley, one of the incredible Program Supervisors in our Housing Services who helps local families secure housing and build the skills they need for stability and independence.

ā€œI'm inspired by folks who are able to find healing, safety, and growth. For me, healing is deeply connected to finding a sense of belonging—knowing that others are there to offer support and connection. I’m lucky to witness this every day in my work at FCNI.ā€
— Haley, Program Supervisor, Housing Support Program

Because of dedicated staff like Haley, families in our community are not just finding housing; they’re also finding hope, connection, and a path forward. šŸ’™

Donor impact doesn't just change one life--it can strengthens an entire family. šŸ’™

Because of your support, ā€œPapaā€ was able to move closer to his son and grandchildren—offering love, stability, and care when they needed it most. Now, he picks the kids up from school, helps with daily routines, and gives their dad the support he needs to keep moving forward.

We're so grateful for support that doesn’t just solve immediate needs. You create connection, relief, and influence lasting stability.

What does prevention look like in action?

For our team, it’s in the everyday moments—parents making it to appointments, youth staying focused in school, and families getting connected to food, housing, and support before challenges turn into crises.

Our Case Manager, Victoria Chipres, shares:
ā€œā€˜Strong Families, Safe Futures’ is all about helping families thrive rather than just survive… By building trust and addressing needs like housing and food early on, I help prevent crises.ā€

This Child Abuse Prevention Month, we’re honoring the people who walk alongside families every day—helping create stability, hope, and brighter futures. šŸ’™
