Access Support Network

Access Support Network The ASN is dedicated to meeting the needs of clients and providing prevention education for the community. The ASN's Biggest Event of the YEAR!

We assist and empower clients in negotiating access to healthcare and obtaining resources to enhance the quality of life for them and their families The 25th Annual Walk for Life is the ASN's largest fundraising event of the year. In joining us, you are making a contribution to not only this agency, you are contributing to the health and well-being of your community! You are helping to raise vital

funds to support the services of the ASN's programs, providing funds that help keep people in their homes, allow them access to critical health care services, build their emotional strength, provide nutritious meals, and so much more. With the donations you're helping to generate, the ASN can continue to provide these and other critical services that assist clients in gaining independence and getting healthy. Your participation helps with another important service - raise HIV/AIDS and Hep C awareness! As we walk through San Luis Obispo, with signs and t-shirts and full of good will, out community will see this group as dedicated to fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS and Hep C. The group also reminds our communities that these diseases are still around and prevalent in our communities, even if we don't see it. You are helping us keep San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties aware and educated! Thanks for helping us in achieving these goals. Your involvement will make a difference in the lives of so many people. Don't forget to connect with your friends, family, co-workers, faith community, or other group on Facebook and Twitter. Share what you're doing and ask for their full support!

Our Story

In 1984, the founders of the Access Support Network (ASN) witnessed an urgent need in the community to provide advocacy and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. From that point on, the ASN has grown and adapted to the unique needs of the community. In 2001, the SLO Hep C Project was developed, offering support for community members living with hepatitis C, and, in 2014, the ASN became the first Covered California certified enrollment entity in San Luis Obispo, helping to ensure that the community had access to affordable health insurance programs. That is one of the ASN’s most basic principles: to strive to meet the unmet needs of our surrounding communities. As of July 1, 2015, the ASN has expanded into Monterey County to offer much needed services and connections to life-sustaining programs - those that guard against homelessness and against lapses of medication and healthcare coverage. The ASN’s strength as an organization and ability to step in to Monterey County is a direct result of the incredible support they have experienced in their 31 years in SLO County.

The staff and Board feel strongly that expanding into Monterey County is just as important a step towards their future as they did when they expanded to include critical hepatitis C programs. HIV/AIDS doesn’t stop at the county line, and the Access Support Network is grateful to have the capacity to continue as the new ASN and provide access and support where needed. The ASN staff works closely with a large pool of dedicated volunteers in coordinating client services and agency fundraising events, and has built lasting partnerships with other non-profits in our community.

The ASN remains the sole community based, non-profit organization in San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties that provides supportive services to residents living with HIV/AIDS and Hep C and their loved ones. The agency strives to improve the quality of life and independence of its clients by providing support on an individual basis.
