Good luck to Texas State Athletics as they take the field in the 2026 Armed Forces Bowl! 🏈

When Dr. Brannon Hyde noticed Dean Campbell’s heart efficiency had declined, he suspected stress from a ruptured esophagus in 2022 as a contributing factor. In May, Dr. Hyde replaced Dean's heart valve.

Following his surgery, Dean completed outpatient cardiac rehab with us and later graduated from our Phase Two program, which he described as an encouraging and motivating experience.

“They were very nice,” Dean said. “I’ve been through some rehabs before, but this was just really great. I started off really anxious about it, a little bit intimidated, but as time went on, I got to where I could tell it was helping, and I was looking forward.”

Dean is especially grateful to Elizabeth, Catherine, and Jasmine, who he said were “super great” throughout his recovery.

With his wife as his rock and the rehab team’s support, Dean is doing more of the activities he used to struggle with. Today, he advises others starting rehab to go in with an open mind.

For six years, President and CEO of the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce Page Michel lived with atrial fibrillation (AFib). Although she managed it with two medications, they came with notorious side effects.

Over the course of several months, her condition worsened with daily heart palpitations and a general sense of feeling unwell. A chance meeting with Director of Clinical Operations at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinics Kathleen Chomel at a one-year anniversary event connected her with the right specialists. Page met with Cardiologist Dr. Michael Benca, who referred her to Electrophysiologist Dr. Gilad Birnbaum.

After a series of tests, Dr. Birnbaum recommended a cardiac ablation, a non-invasive procedure that uses heat or cold to create small scars in the heart to restore a normal rhythm. Although Page felt anxious about the procedure, she says our care team gave her the clarity and confidence she needed.

She praises Clint for helping her prepare for every step of the process and Tasha for her warmth and attentiveness, which turned her experience into a positive one. Within days, Page was back at work. Today, she’s grateful to finally be off her medications and now looks ahead with renewed energy and appreciation for the care that helped her reclaim her health.

When former Texas State head football coach David Bailiff needed health care, he knew exactly where to go.

“Everyone was so professional, so friendly, and constantly communicating with us. It really took the anxiety away as a parent. If there are six stars, they deserve six. If there are ten, they deserve ten.”

Coach Bailiff has deep ties to San Marcos and says the hospital’s commitment to excellence is clear the moment you walk in. From advanced imaging technology to compassionate and excellent leadership, CHRISTUS Health is proud to be here for our community.

Our halls were filled with more than healing! This week they were filled with music, joy and heart. 🎶❤️
Our associates took time to spread holiday cheer by caroling throughout the hospital, sharing smiles with patients, families, and fellow caregivers. Moments like these remind us that healing is about compassion, connection and community, especially during the holidays.

19-month-old, August, was rushed to CHRISTUS Children's after swallowing several tiny, high-powered magnets. Once inside the body, magnets can attract to each other across the intestines or stomach, causing tears, blockages, and life-threatening injuries.

By the time August arrived in the early hours of the morning, he was in severe abdominal pain. The pediatric surgery and GI teams at CHRISTUS Children’s moved quickly. Within three hours, surgeons successfully removed the magnets and repaired multiple holes in his stomach and colon. Thanks to the quick action of his family, physicians, and our specialized care team, August is now healing well.

This December, Safe Toys and Gifts Month, August’s family is sharing their story to warn others. Toddlers can easily mistake these magnets or button batteries for candy or small toys.

If your child has abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, or you suspect magnet or button battery ingestion, don’t wait—go straight to a CHRISTUS emergency department.
