I'm back home after attending the American College of Culinary Medicine conference. It was a great mix of science, skill-building, and connection with others working to bring food into the center of health care.

Here are three things that really stuck with me:

🥄 There’s no single blueprint for building a program. What works in one clinic may look totally different in another—and that’s a good thing. I was encouraged to see how many creative approaches people are taking to meet the needs of their own patients and communities. It reminded me that there’s almost always more than one right way to do things and flexibility is a superpower.

🍊 I learned how to properly “supreme” a grapefruit. Finally - a less messy way to enjoy grapefruit without the bitter pith!
Simple, yes—but also a reminder that food skills are health skills. Making whole foods easier and more enjoyable to eat is part of the work we do, and I’ll not only be passing this one on to my patients, but using it myself!

🧪 are a much bigger problem than I realized.
These persistent chemicals are found in everything from clothing to fast food wrappers to dental floss. They’ve even made their way into our rainwater and produce. They don’t wash off and they don’t break down easily, so reducing exposure is something we all need to be thinking about. This topic deserves more attention.

I left the conference feeling grounded in purpose and excited for what’s ahead as I continue developing the Corridor Food As Medicine program. It’s time to make it happen!

Inspired, humbled, and full of new ideas after Day 1 of the American College of Culinary Medicine conference.

I was excited to reconnect with the incomparable Dr. Jaclyn Albin who inspires me with her boundless energy and passion for . I’m incredibly grateful to learn from her experience.

There is so much possibility in using food and lifestyle to change health outcomes—and I’m more committed than ever to building the Corridor Food As Medicine Clinic into something meaningful for the families in our community.

The learning curve is real, and there’s a lot of work to be done. It’s awe inspiring to see the ways that innovators in this space are solving problems and helping their patients, one plate at a time

It's Week—and I’m celebrating one of the many wins we’ve seen in the Corridor F.A.M.ily clinic.

Over the past six months, one of my pediatric patients has made some meaningful (but manageable!) lifestyle changes with their family—and the results speak volumes:

✅ Total cholesterol: ↓ from 202 to 175
✅ Triglycerides: ↓ from 200 to 110
✅ LDL: ↓ from 124 to 94
✅ HDL: ↑ from 46 to 50

We didn’t aim for perfection. Instead, we focused on progress—adding more fiber-rich plant foods, cutting back on fast food and processed snacks, and working together to find realistic meal prep strategies that fit this busy family's life.

One of their biggest wins? Cooking at home more often—without overhauling their entire diet or sacrificing the foods they love.

This is the power of a primary care-based approach: sustainable changes, real results, and better health without making life harder.
