NSA Los Angeles South Pasadena Chapter Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from NSA Los Angeles South Pasadena Chapter, Speech Pathologist, .

The NSA provides support, friendship, and information to the stuttering community, instilling the sense of self-worth so often missing in the lives of those who battle this disorder. With members nationwide and over 100 self-help support groups in the United states, the NSA provides information about stuttering, increases public awareness of stuttering, serves as a support, an advocacy group, and

is a referral organization for speech therapy sources throughout the United States. Our support groups provide attendees with the opportunity to share fears, frustrations, and triumphs; practice therapeutic techniques to help control stuttering in a safe and supportive environment; engage in speaking experiences they might shy away from in their daily lives; and, perhaps most importantly, assist others in achieving these goals.

On January 16, the Los Angeles chapter had its first meeting of the year with a total of ten participants. Instead of an ordinary NSA meeting, the group decided to do a fun Q/A among each other by picking questions out of a paper bag and asking entertaining questions towards one another. The activity went so well that not only the time went by fast, but at the end of the night, everybody walked out of that meeting with a smile on their face. Having informative NSA gatherings is interesting but to spice up the meeting by turning it into a so called “hang out spot” for PWSs, SLP students, and SLPs just to talk beyond stuttering is psychologically healthy. There is more than meets the eye with a PWS, and stuttering should not define the person as a whole, but only 5-10% of whom they are:)

Better late than never. Last week on October-17-2017, the LA chapter had a total of 12 people including undergraduate students, PWSs, a graduate student, and one SLP (John Gomez). The group discussed why stuttering is not discussed openly in the media or lack of a better term "in a casual conversation." Why research contradics its studies on how to bring about stuttering or how to work with an individual who stutters. Is it typical for stutters to constently think about stuttering all day? Also, perhaps using speech techniques for the person who stutters does not need to be applied everyday because stuttering should not take over that individual's mind set, but rather have the individual take over his stuttering for the better and to work with it and NOT against it. Lastly Josh Marcus discussed how the LA chapter benefited him thought out these 7 years that has been active.

See you all in November and have a great Halloween:)

Greetings Los Angeles, yesterday the Los Angeles Chapter had their monthly meeting again, which a total of ten people showed up along with two SLP students. The chapter discussed what were the difference of taking speech therapy from a local University or a private practice? Also, should an SLP focus on the psychological part of stuttering first or just go straight forward towards the techniques? Moreover, we discussed PWSs' experiences with speech therapy and should all people who stutter attend therapy. Later on, the topic of parents' confusion towards stuttering brought mix opinions within the group and lastly the SLP students asked the PWSs how they mentally felt at the present moment towards stuttering. Moreover, SLP John Gomez will be presenting his film When I Stutter at L.A Live Regal Cinemas on Sunday October-15-2017 2pm, which will follow a Q/A afterwards along with grabbing a bite to eat at a local restaurant. Any further questions about the film please contact John Gomez through email or call.

We'll see our friends again on October:)

Yesterday Aug-15-2018, the Los Angeles chapter had a wonderful meeting with seven people in total. Two SLPs, (including co-chapter leader John Gomez) a few PWS along with one first timer. Kwan started off the meeting with informing everybody that it is best to let go of one's stuttering, John brought up the question to the group on what they would like for an SLP to know regarding to give therapy towards a person who stutters, Leo shared his personal experience of advertising to his listener that he is PWS, and John brought up the idea to do a mock meet and great towards the end of the meeting, which everybody got up and introduced themselves without the fear of being pressured by the fluent society. Lastly, the group has been discussing about a get together at a restaurant just to make things more interesting. Further details will be provided in the future. As for the baseball game, its still up in the air. See you all in September. lol

On July-18-2017, a total of six people gathered for the LA chapter on a Tuesday night. During the group's introductions, a gentleman named Kwan informed the group how advertising to the listener by saying "I am a person who stutters please be patient with me" is not as difficult as the person who stutters makes it out to be in their head. Another gentleman named Leo brought up an interesting discussion how why not it is a good mind set to belief that it is okay to label one's self as a person who stutters. Every individual had their own opinion to have the belief to either say "I get stuck sometimes" rather than saying "I am a person who stutters," there is no right or wrong answer and every individual can lable themselves what ever they wish. Plus, a woman named Kathryn also brought up the discussion how the work place or school setting should not intimidate the stutterer on what they choose to do with their up and coming careers. Stuttering does not define the whole person, rather the knowledge that person has that can be used in a particular field is what will define that person in a positive outcome in the field of their choice, which if a person can over come stuttering, then nothing can hold that person back.😉
See you all in August:)

Greetings,
To all going to the NSA 2017 conference today or tomorrow, the LA chapter wishes you the very best. The NSA conference is a safe environment for all stutters including their loved ones to suck up all things about stuttering. If it is your first conference then go out and introduce yourself to as many individuals ( who will becomes future friends) as possible and just make small talk. One will find out that a stutter has more in common with another stutter who lives on the other side of the country, which will blow the mind of the stutter because they will think "wow I am really not alone". Furthermore, enjoy your time in Dallas Texas and just let your stuttering take over the conference with confidence. Have fun and remember to stutter like rock starts:)

On June-20-2017, a total of nine people showed up, including a gentleman from Maryland, which was nice of him to come along and say hi. The group discussed common habits that people who stutter come across with everyday and wondered if techniques were appropriate to use in certain situations or not. A gentleman brought up the issue that stuttering is a mental challenge that one has to continue think about every time one wants to say something to an individual (non-stutterer), which people who stutter and non-stutters have their own philosophies on. Moreover, a few group members were excited to announce that they will be attending the NSA conference this July in Texas, which the grouped wished them the best and hope this experience would benefit their lives for the better. Lastly, the group ended the evening with the topic of advertising to the listener that one is a person who stutters, which the group had different opinions on who to share that information with. Overall, evening went better than expected and let us hope the following meeting will beat the previous one.

NSA Picnic 2017

Great having NSA chapters from Irvine, Fullerton, Riverside, and LA come together on a Sunday afternoon. Too bad time went by so quickly, but hopefully next year's picnic will land on a Saturday, which will give all of us more time to talk and make new friends.
