As we head into New Years Resolution season, please sit with this question⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
[Text reads: "I invite you to pause and consider: what are you hoping will be different once you lose the weight? Whatever that answer is, can we work toward that instead?]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The first thought that comes to mind might at first seem impossible to separate from weight. For example, maybe your reason for wanting to lose weight is to fit in certain clothing sizes. Or maybe you believe that if your body is smaller you'll have more stamina, improved body image, or be able to participate in your life more. But most of the time the promise of weight loss comes with underlying promises that are not inherently related. It's usually not just about fitting into a smaller pair of jeans -- it's about a deeply held cultural belief that a smaller pair of jeans means happiness, satisfaction with life, better relationships, better careers, and better health (and more...).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

✨If your goal is to love the way you look and feel in your clothes -- can you find yourself some clothes you love to wear at your current size?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨If your goal is to feel strong -- can you begin to build strength right now, from wherever you're at?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨If your goal is to stop letting your body image or size get in the way of the things you love to do -- can you start by saying yes to something today, even if it feels really scary?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course, this concept is even more complicated when you live in a larger body and the world is built for small ones, with stigma constantly lurking. I invite you to connect to that anger, frustration, and anything else you might feel, and direct it outward toward the systems that need to change, rather than inward trying to shrink your own body. And if that doesn't feel doable yet, know that you are not alone, and perhaps consider 1 way you might honor your body's needs today. ❤️
