đ Happy Valentineâs Day from The Peninsula Regent! Love is in the air, and we invited residents to share their love storiesâfrom chance meetings to the moments that turned into a lifetime together.
Meet Bob and Fran. Their story began with a crowded pizza shop, a bold choice, and a future rewritten.
âIn 1960, I was 20 years old, newly back home in San Mateo, working full-time at Ampex, taking college classes, and driving a white MGA convertibleâwith no girlfriend.
During spring break, some friends and I stopped at Hambones Pizza Parlor, sneaking in through a back window to avoid the long line. I sat down at a table and across from me was a gorgeous brunette named Fran. I knew right away I wanted to ask her out. I called her that same night and invited her on a double date to go bowling, and before long, we were going out on our own. I was smitten.
That summer, I asked Fran to marry me. She said she couldnât unless I became Catholic, so I did. We planned to marry after her first year of college, but she soon returned home, and we were married on June 24, 1961. Sixty-five years later, weâve found ourselves right back where our story began.â
