Since 1954, Lifehouse has opened the doors of opportunity and independence to individuals with developmental disabilities through life-skills training, community integration, advocacy, referrals and community information. We couldn’t be more proud of the progress of the people we support, the satisfaction it has brought to them and their families, and the many beneficial effects of their integrati

on into our community. With the help of our staff, donors, volunteers and local community, we strive to improve the quality of life for the people we serve and their families. Our individualized programs and services are provided in an atmosphere of respect, inspiration and purpose. We currently serve over 250 individuals living independently with support in the community in Marin, Sonoma and San Francisco Counties. Formerly known as MARC, Lifehouse is recognized as an innovative and forward thinking leader, continually striving to provide the highest level of services to the people we support and developing new programs to meet the needs of the community. Lifehouse provided the early leadership for special education, implemented the first employment training program, started Marin Special Olympics, launched community recreation programs for adults, a seniors program, and most recently, programs to address social and recreation needs for teens with developmental disabilities and the increased needs of those with autism. Lifehouse offers a comprehensive skills training model focused on each individual’s needs. We support many individuals with varying disabilities, and the needs of the people we support vary; this can range from two hours per week to 24-hour care. At Lifehouse, each individual participates in developing individual goals and is supported by a team of professionals.

Meet Chloe.

Chloe has been supported by Lifehouse since 2012 and brings creativity, energy, and joy to everything she does. She attends the Cedars Fine Arts day program, where she enjoys painting, weaving, and working with textiles—expressing herself through color, texture, and design.

Chloe is also a member of the Lifehouse dance group and loves performing with her friends at Great Chefs & Wineries each year, lighting up the stage with confidence and enthusiasm.

When she’s not creating or performing, Chloe enjoys spending time in nature and staying active by playing basketball through Special Olympics.

We’re honored to introduce our first spotlight:

Meet Alex.
Alex has been part of the Lifehouse community since 2014. With a sculptor for a father, he says his love of art is simply in his blood. He shares, “My inspiration is like a pet cat. You can’t force it; you have to wait for it to come to you. And you have to act on it, because it won’t be there forever.”

Alex brings that inspiration to life through his work at Cedars, where he creates expressive and thoughtful art. Beyond the studio, he’s also a talented writer and even designs his own video games, constantly exploring new ways to tell his story and share his creativity with the world.

Peter has been supported by Lifehouse since 2001. He lives at Comito House with his housemates (pictured here with friend and housemate Benji) and enjoys being part of a close-knit community.

He loves painting and drawing, especially mountains. Peter treasures time with his large extended family and always looks forward to holidays and family gatherings. He’s known for his great sense of humor.

Peter is an avid sports enthusiast. He plays Special Olympics basketball, softball, and golf. He’s a fan of the Giants and Warriors. If you love sports, you’ll get along great—as long as you’re cheering for his teams!
