Listening Together team believes that the life of a child who is deaf and hard of hearing is transformed when empowered parents partner with knowledgeable and skilled professionals within supportive communities.
Listening Together empowers parents, trains professionals, and engages with communities around the world to transform the lives of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
We envision an inclusive world where children who are deaf and hard of hearing can achieve their personal best without being constrained by where they live and what their family can afford.
Parent Empowerment – Parents and family members of children who are deaf or hard of hearing participate in individual or group parent education sessions to learn about hearing loss, hearing technology, language development, as well as how they can be their child’s best advocate.
Professional Development – Professionals working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing participate in online trainings and individual coaching sessions to develop their knowledge and skills related to listening and spoken language intervention and auditory-verbal practice.
Public Awareness – Families, professionals, and communities can participate in free monthly webinars on topics related to hearing loss, listening and spoken language intervention, and mainstreaming.
Our Team
Ahladhini Rao Dugar, M.E.D., Co-Founder and Director of Parent Empowerment is an early interventionist and a teacher of the deaf. Ahladhini provides individual and group parent education sessions to families in multiple countries including India, UAE, and USA.
Uma Soman, Ph.D., LSLS Cert AVEd., Co-Founder and Director of Professional Development is a teacher of the deaf, consultant, and mentor. Uma trains professionals and provides mentoring for Listening and Spoken Language Specialist certification. In 2019, Uma has worked with professionals from multiple countries including India, Sri Lanka, and USA.
Ahladhini and Uma believe that when parents choose a listening and spoken language approach, their children should have the opportunity to learn to speak the language(s) of their home and participate in their community. While currently residing in the US, both Ahladhini and Uma are interested in working with parents, professionals, and communities around the world.
Listening Together is registered 501(c)(3) educational organization. It is not affiliated with any companies that sell hearing loss related products or services.
