We’ve shown many cases that are very crowded, but with proper planning and technique we can get all the teeth to fit to achieve an esthetic result.

Although sometimes, there is just no way to get all the teeth to fit into the arch and still maintain healthy gum tissue, stable occlusion, and achieve an esthetic result. Every once in a while it is necessary to have some adult teeth extracted to make more room for the rest of the teeth.

This patient came in with the following:
- Severe crowding
- Severe overbite
- Class II canines
- Retained primary teeth

For this patient Dr. Peterson determined it was necessary to have 4 premolars extracted. But with the proper diagnosis and treatment planning we still achieve an amazing esthetic result! No one will ever know he’s missing any teeth except for his dentist. 😜

It’s September! Which means it’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! Which meeeaaans we have a goal of raising $1,000 for our favorite non-profit, 🎗️🫶🏼

AND we have an amazing donor who is going to match EVERY donation! If you’re in office, you can donate any amount but if you donate at least $20 you can pick out your own MONKEY!🐵 💛 Our office has been taken over by the monkeys this month and we’re so excited to see the impact our community can make.

This cause is near to our hearts and we would really love to help get all of the money & recognition over to , they’re doing hard work over there.

Gaps be gone!! 😏

This patient had fairly straight teeth but did not like the gaps on his top front teeth.

There are things to take into consideration when we have lots of gaps on the top and no spacing on the bottom. Many times we have to create space on the bottom in between the teeth (this slenderizing is called IPR) in order to completely close the spaces on the top and maintain a healthy bite.

He decided braces were the best option for his lifestyle so we used the Pitts21 self-ligating braces to close the gap, maintain a wide smile, nice smile arc, and ideal occlusion (bite). He was in treatment for just over a year and turned out fantastic!

Attila was always a bright spot in our day and we will miss seeing him in the office but we are happy he now has the confidence to go fulfill his dreams! 🤩

‼️Check out this “Peterson Smile!”‼️

This patient presented to us with moderate spacing on his upper jaw. His upper and lower arches were narrow as well, a posterior crossbite on the left, AND he had a moderate deep bite. Never fear, Dr. Peterson is here. 🦸🏼‍♂️

We utilized a rapid palatal expander (RPE) to correct the crossbite and the Pitts21 Self-Ligating brackets and power chains to close his gaps. Elastics were worn to correct his bite and properly placed bite bumps helped to open up his bite in the front.

Gaps are one of the most unstable movements in orthodontics and they love to come back after the braces come off. Dr. Peterson always recommends a double retainer to keep gaps closed - a bonded retainer behind the teeth and a clear retainer over the top to wear at night. On top of that, many times a frenectomy is also recommended.

A laser frenectomy and gingivectomy was also performed after the braces came off and you can see how much of a difference it made in how much incisors he showed in his smile. This is just one part of what makes a “Peterson Smile” so aesthetic! 😀
