A funeral and a celebration of life are NOT the same thing — and the difference matters more than most families realize.
A traditional funeral typically includes a viewing, a formal service (often with religious elements), and a burial or committal — a structure that's been honored for generations.
A celebration of life is less formal. The focus shifts from mourning to honoring — photo slideshows, favorite music, storytelling, sometimes even themes (a backyard BBQ for the griller, a beach gathering for the ocean lover).
Here's what most people don't know: you can have both. A formal service for close family, and a celebration of life for the wider community.
At Dillon Funeral Service, we help families build whatever feels right. Traditional, modern, or a blend.
There's no "right" way to honor someone. The right way is the one that reflects who they were and brings your family peace.
