My favorite Uryadis Village Program...the Community Program

In rural Ethiopia, having a child with medical or therapeutic needs is often financially devastating for a family and they often give their child up to an orphanage. To help with this, UV came up with the Community Program. UV provides medical care, physical therapy, and diapers and the opportunity to attend our Montessori school.

This sweet family came in this week. Their baby Yisakalish has hydrocephalus and seizures. They were intending on giving up their child...the mom's eyes were the saddest I have seen. We explained the Community Program and they chose this option instead. The mother's eyes brightened immediately. Yisakalish has started PT and each day her mom's smile grows. She has been faithfully doing her home exercises. We learned today that Yisakalish's nickname is "Excellent" and I told her mom that her name should be "Amazing".

We are currently seeking sponsors for Yisakalish and the other 12 kids in this amazing program. So far 13 kids are staying with their families instead of the orphange!!! If you are interested, please email Sarah at sarah@uryadisvillage.org
