The first step to learning how to regulate your nervous system, is to have knowledge of the different nervous system states.

These states dictate how you are able to respond to stressors, relate to others, as well as how your body reacts.

It also helps you to identify what exercise will bring you back into regulation more easily and effectively.

Hurt people hurt people.

When I accepted this as TRUTH, and stopped trying to find a way around it,(maybe if I just did x,y,z) I began to see all the ways that I had owned other’s behaviors as an indication of my own worth.

💥People are only capable of showing up for others in the capacity they show up for themselves. 💥

•Read that again.•

Capable=Capacity.

Many of us actually need to relearn how to communicate, in order for our relationships to thrive and grow.

Learning the difference between Reacting vs Responding, is one of the first steps I take in teaching my clients how to improve their communication skills.

If you are focusing on solutions, your energy will attract solutions.

Be certain your focus is on the things you desire more of.

How to set personal Boundaries in 4 steps👇🏼

1. Define the boundary. Do any boundaries currently exist? Do different situations/people require different boundaries?

2. Say what you need. Be clear and concise. Keep the focus on yourself, and own what you need, instead of pointing out what the other person is doing.

3. Stay simple. It is not necessary for you to include a “because…”. Additionally, apologizing for a boundary is unnecessary. You are entitled to your boundaries without explanation or apology.

4. Set consequences. “It’s impossible to set boundaries without setting consequences.”
Articulate why the boundary is important, and what will happen if it’s crossed. It’s incredibly important to set a consequence that you are willing follow through on, or else the boundary is not effective.

If boundaries are being neglected, it tends to impact all other areas of one’s life!

A year ago, I committed to a different kind of healing journey.

Years of therapy, self reflection and insight had only gotten me so far.

As a therapist, and someone who had crawled through the trenches, I could recite the steps to take…but was I truly taking them?

And then I shifted from KNOWING the things, to DOING the things.
Every damn day. Uncomfortable or not.

When we embody the knowledge…integrate the knowing with the doing….
That, my friend, is where the healing occurs.
That is where inner peace lives and breathes.

Accepting and embodying this teaching has brought me so much freedom.

“Who you are”, implies a permanent state.
It generates feelings of right, wrong, good or bad.
It creates feelings of ownership, and if we are dissatisfied, it can breed feelings of shame.

“Where you are”, allows room for growth.
It leaves room for change.
It does not have the same feelings of permanence.
It illuminates our ability to change a situation..to pivot towards what we desire.

If where you are, isn’t where you desire to be…walk away.

How do you ensure that your energy is protected on a daily basis?

One way we can do this is through boundaries.

Boundaries can help us tell others how we feel, as well as prevent us from taking on the emotions of others.

Boundaries assist us in maintaining a healthy sense of who we are, without a constant need of approval from others.

Boundaries also allow us to communicate, to ourselves and to others, that we are not available for certain behaviors, relationships, or situations.

The idea of setting boundaries can sometimes feel difficult, but the more you practice, the more comfortable and empowered you will begin to feel.

You hear me say it all the time.
A situation creates thoughts.
⬇️
Those thoughts create our feelings.
⬇️
Our feelings dictate our behavior.

It all begins with the thoughts we have and what meaning we derive from those thoughts.

If you’re stuck in a negative thought loop, your feelings will also be negative.

When you increase awareness around those negative thoughts, you will begin to see changes in the way you respond to situations.

Need help rewriting those beliefs? Send me a DM or book your FREE call to see if we would be a good fit!

We live in a society, where approval makes us confident.

We have stopped trusting our own intuition, and started relying on what other people will think and say about our behavior and actions.

Confidence doesn’t come from other people. Confidence comes from KNOWING that everything you’re doing aligns you with the highest version of yourself.
