Congratulations to Lori Garza, our Fall Daisy Award Honoree!

A patient submitted this heartfelt nomination to thank Lori for taking extraordinary care of her while she was in the ER:

"I was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I came into the emergency room with stomach pain. Nurse Lori was by my side throughout numerous emergency room visit for three weeks straight. She went above and beyond, and I don't think I would have made it thru some moments had she not been there.

She hugged me when I needed it and took over when I couldn't speak. I've never experienced such an amazing nurse before. She is something special. Now when I need to go to the emergency room I will call ahead and check to see if she is there. When she sees me pull up, she comes right outside with a wheelchair and takes me straight to a room and tells the doctor what's going on. Words cannot begin to give the amount of gratitude I feel justice.

She has made this life changing experience a whole lot easier with kind words, hugs, and support. I feel extremely lucky to have her as a valued member of my support team. She definitely deserves the Daisy award. I feel like I'm not giving her justice. But I'm struggling to find the right words. I don't know when the next Daisy award is due to be given but I just hope that she wins and that I'm alive to see it."

Congratulations to Sarah Faux, our November Employee of the Month!

"Sarah takes every opportunity to brighten someone's day. I have witnessed her go out of her way to help visitors to the cafeteria. She takes a minute to check in with them inquiring about their day, offering to help them with their tray and guiding them to the routine and flow of the cafeteria.

About 3 weeks ago when an older lady in line approached Sarah to pay for her dinner, Sarah kindly inquired how she was doing and holding up. It was evident that the lady had been with a family member upstairs for a few days and this wasn't her first trip to the cafeteria. As Sarah spoke with the lady, she wished her well and that her family member had a good recovery and she would pray for him. The lady told Sarah how much that meant to her and said Sarah's kindness almost brought her to tears. She was obviously very moved by the warmth and caring demonstrated by Sarah. The lady told Sarah that it meant so much to her to come to the cafeteria and to see her there. Sarah was kind and was reassuring for that family member. This is not the first time I have witnessed the connection Sarah makes with those who are visiting or having a tough day.

When I walk in the cafeteria and I see the way Sarah interacts with staff and visitors, seeing her smile and her friendly comments to all, it shows me how valuable she is to our BGH Team."
