Getting ready for school isn't just about sleep—it's also about organization. Having your child help with the process can make them feel more prepared and excited!

▪ Make it a Team Effort: Have your children help pick out their school supplies, shoes, and clothing. This gives them a sense of ownership and gets them excited for the first day.

▪ Explore Community Support: If you need a little extra help with supplies or clothing, you’re not alone. Our community offers wonderful resources, including the FREE backpack program, Community Envision Center, and the Farmin Closet, all offering resources to helping kids start the year with confidence.

Getting organized together sets the tone for a smooth, positive start to the school year!

Help Your Students Get Ready to Go Back to School, By Reminding Them Sleep is Key:

▪ One of the best ways to help your child get ready for the new school year is to focus on their sleep schedule. A consistent sleep routine is crucial for your child's well-being and helps them be at their best every day.

▪ Adjust Gradually: Don't wait until the night before school starts. Begin adjusting their bedtime and wake-up time in small steps each day. This gradual change helps their body get used to the new schedule more easily.

▪ Count Backward: A simple way to figure out the right bedtime is to work backward. Most elementary-aged children and teens need at least 10-12 hours of sleep. If they need to wake up at 7:00 a.m., they should be in bed by 9:00 p.m.

▪ Stay Consistent: Once school begins, try to stick to this schedule, even on weekends. Consistency is the most important factor in a healthy sleep routine.

Back-to-school season is here! We'll be sharing tips from Bonner General Behavioral Health throughout the week to help make the transition smoother for your student.

Tip # 1: Address Anxieties and Get Familiar with the School
▪ It's completely normal for children to feel a mix of excitement and nerves before a new school year. Addressing their feelings head-on can make the transition much smoother.

▪ Open a Conversation: Talk about school with your child. Listen to both their excitement and their fears. Reassure them and let them know you are a team. If their worries persist, you can create a plan to partner with their new teacher or a school counselor.

▪ Visit the School: Check the school's website for "Back-to-School" events. Visiting their new classroom and meeting the teacher can ease a lot of anxiety. A short tour of the school—including the gym, lunchroom, and playground—can make the environment feel more familiar and less intimidating. Don't forget to take a moment to play together on the playground to end the visit on a positive note!

▪ Remember on your child(ren) school website, you can access your child's team of helpers at school: principals, counselors and teachers are all listed to support you and your child(ren)
