Postnatal visits hold such a special place in my heart ❤️
✨During each visit I prioritize letting the feelings flow. Transitioning into parenthood is an emotional process! It’s important we get to mourn our previous self and all the freedom we feel we might have lost. Then it’s important to dive into confidence boosting conversation about trusting our new gut as a parent and learning our new boundaries.
✨Then we get to recap on the birth-what was the lowest point? What was the highest?
✨Engaging the partner in this conversation is SO important as well. Partners have to watch their birthing person experience some of the most intense pain they have ever gone through and it can feel a bit traumatic.
✨Getting to discuss that and talk about it openly and freely gives space to process how painful the birth process can be emotionally for both parties!
✨Then getting to uplift ourselves with the beauty of the high point- meeting this beautiful, miraculous, and sweet new ❤️love!
✨Then I observe nursing to see if I can give any tips or tricks to add some ease to the breastfeeding process. And to add some encouragement!
✨Demonstrating how to wrap baby is another thing that I help with! Baby wearing is SO helpful and is so great for bonding. Definitely something I recommend for the non birthing partner to have some bonding time.
✨It can be so helpful to have someone show you in person rather than drowning in your wrap and fumbling over YouTube!
✨Finally I tell my clients that forever and always I am in their corner. To always call me or text me if they have extra questions, concerns, or just want to catch up while baby grows! Building community is so important as a new family!
✨Let’s just say I almost always go over my hour time slot 😬 🤦🏼‍♀️But I am always glad I did!
✨Wrapping up my last client in Spokane was so bitter sweet- I am so honored to have gotten to help welcome you to this world baby girl 🥰.

I have posted about self care before... how it can take on many forms. This is one of mine.

Being alone by or on a body of water is something I have always found so much peace and comfort in.
I have always felt connected to water. Like I can breathe a little deeper.
I hope that you have something that lets you take in a full breath, at least for a moment. Because right now I believe we all need it more than ever.

so . much. emotion.

I started Lilac City Doula last May in 2019. It took more courage than I expected to start my own business but I was so excited to do it! I am so grateful that Spokane was the birthplace of my business. I have loved working with all of the Midwives, OBs, Nurses, and Doulas in this area.

I have been longing to return home to the westside of the state for sometime. Longing to be close to my family, and to have my children be close to their family as well. It’s been tough at times being away-but I have grown SO MUCH! And I have the beautiful village of Spokane to thank for that ❤️

My transition to Whatcom County will come mid August and there I will be joining as an Independent contractor! I am so excited to get to start working with this amazing team of doulas!
To all of the families I have worked with, my heart will stay with you always ❤️❤️
