Up North Yoga & Wellness
January mini-retreat/workshop: Playing with Balance
Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center, Sandstone
January 10th // 9:00am - 11:30am
$35
The kickoff to a new year is typically chock full of aggressive strategies about habit building, lifestyle tweaks, mindset change, “new year new you,” blah blah blah. Ugh. Let’s ditch it and do something juicier and more nourishing instead.
In this first-ever Up North Yoga mini-retreat/workshop, we’ll focus on creating better balance for the year ahead that’s realistic and lovely — emotionally, mentally, and physically. We’ll start with a gentle, all-levels yoga flow that blends challenge with ease, and obviously some goofball antics thrown in (my specialty!).
We’ll also pair breathwork with journaling to expand our understanding of how journaling can be done. Hate journaling? I get it. I used to flinch whenever a teacher would throw out a journal prompt. But 25+ years as a freelance journalist and 18 years as a yoga teacher have helped me figure out how to combine the best of both those worlds, in a way that can be fun and introspective without feeling like you’re trolling yourself through endless rants.
In terms of exploring balance in a physical sense, this workshop will go into several tips and tactics that can help you improve balance overall, and we’ll spend time playing with different ways to get into balance poses that make them not suck so much. Then, we’ll wrap up all this goodness with some Yin yoga, a practice that can be both restorative and mindful. Think of it like kindergarten nap time, but your mom doesn’t have to come pick you up after. And yes, there will be snacks.
Plus, even though the workshop ends at 11:30, you’re welcome to stay and explore the grounds at Osprey Wilds afterward and go hiking, or if there’s snow, the center rents snowshoes for only $6. Score!
Sign up by sending me a message or email (elizabeth_millard@mac.com) to confirm participation and you can Venmo me at — if you’re a Venmo fan, let me know and we’ll figure it out. Either way, payment will secure your spot.
I’m excited about putting this together, and hope to see you there!!
Na-meow-ste,
Elizabeth
