🚨 Feature Friday: Urethral Obstruction in Male Cats 🚨
This week’s feature isn’t just cute—it’s critical.
We’re highlighting a life-threatening emergency we see far too often: Urethral Obstruction in male cats.

🧠 What is it?
It’s when a cat's urethra (the tube that carries urine) becomes blocked, often by crystals, mucus, or small stones—making them unable to urinate.

😿 What to watch for:
🔸 Straining to urinate
🔸 Frequent trips to the litter box with little/no output
🔸 Vocalizing in pain
🔸 Lethargy or vomiting
🔸 Hiding or behavior changes

⏱ Why it's an emergency:
A blocked bladder can lead to kidney failure, bladder rupture, or even death within 24–48 hours.

🩺 Treatment:
Requires immediate veterinary intervention—often including catheterization, IV fluids, and hospitalization.

💡 Prevention Tip:
Ensure your cat drinks plenty of water, feed a vet-recommended diet, and keep stress low—especially in multi-cat homes.

If you notice any of these signs, call us immediately.
This condition can’t wait!

🐾 Tail Talk Tuesday: The Graceful Saluki 🐾

With their long, silky ears and feathered tail flowing behind them, the Saluki is elegance in motion! Known as one of the oldest dog breeds in the world, these “Royal Dogs of Egypt” were once prized by pharaohs and nomads alike for their incredible speed and endurance.

✨ Fun Facts:
🏜️ Originating from the Middle East, the Saluki was bred to chase gazelle across desert sands.
💨 They can reach speeds up to 40 mph, rivaling the Greyhound!
🛋️ Despite their athleticism, Salukis are surprisingly calm and gentle companions at home.
🩷 Their tails — long, curved, and feathered — help them balance during high-speed runs and express their graceful, sensitive nature.

Whether they’re sprinting across open fields or lounging like royalty on the couch, the Saluki’s beauty and poise never go unnoticed.

📸 Drop a photo below if you’ve ever met one of these stunning sight-hounds!

🚨 Feature Friday: Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV) – “Bloat” in Dogs🚨
What is it?
GDV occurs when a dog’s stomach fills with gas and twists on itself. This blocks blood flow to vital organs and quickly becomes life-threatening.

Who’s at risk?
🦴 Large, deep-chested breeds like Great Danes, Boxers, Weimaraner's, Standard Poodles
🦴 Dogs that eat quickly, exercise after meals, or are fed once daily

Signs to watch for:
🔸 Restlessness or pacing
🔸 Drooling or trying to vomit without success
🔸 Bloated or tight abdomen
🔸 Rapid breathing or collapse

Why it's urgent:
GDV is fatal if not treated quickly—minutes to hours matter. Emergency surgery is needed to untwist the stomach and prevent recurrence.

Prevention Tip:
Talk to your vet about gastropexy (a surgery that tacks the stomach to prevent twisting), especially if you own a high-risk breed.

🐾 Tail Talk Tuesday – Meet the Norwegian Elkhound! 🐾

The Norwegian Elkhound is a courageous, loyal, and spirited spitz-type breed with ancient roots as a hunter and protector in the rugged terrain of Scandinavia. Known for their distinctive curled tail and wolf-like appearance, Elkhounds are versatile working dogs and loving family companions.

📏 Size & Build:
Males: 50–60 lbs | Females: 45–55 lbs
Sturdy, muscular, and built for endurance in harsh climates

🧠 Temperament:
✔️ Loyal and protective — excellent watchdogs
✔️ Confident, intelligent, and independent thinkers
✔️ Affectionate with family and great with kids, but may be wary of strangers

🏃 Exercise Needs:
High energy — needs daily walks, playtime, and mental challenges
They excel at hiking, scent work, and agility activities

🛡️ Health Considerations:
Generally hardy but can be prone to hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy
Regular grooming needed to manage their thick double coat, especially during shedding season

❄️ Fun Fact:
Despite their name, Norwegian Elkhounds were originally used to hunt moose (called “elg” in Norwegian), not elk! Their bravery and stamina made them indispensable hunting partners in Viking times.
