Let’s clear up STRESS vs DYSREGULATION 📋
Stress is a normal response to challenge : your body mobilizes energy so you can cope, problem-solve, and perform. Dysregulation, however, happens when your nervous system becomes overwhelmed and loses flexibility, making it harder to think clearly, stay present, or respond intentionally.

Spent the day engaged in meaningful collaboration and education at a human trafficking training. The experience deepened awareness of risk factors, warning signs, and trauma-informed strategies needed to respond with compassion and competence. Grateful for opportunities like this that strengthen interdisciplinary partnerships and equip us to better identify, support, and advocate for survivors on their journey toward safety and healing ❤️‍🩹

Whether you’re a teacher, manager, parent, therapist, or business owner, offering choice is one of the simplest ways to decrease power differentials and increase buy-in.

Choice supports the nervous system.
Choice builds autonomy.
Autonomy fuels connection and ownership.

Instead of: “Do it this way.”
Try: “Would you prefer to start here or there?”

Small choices → more regulation.
More regulation → more engagement.
More engagement → better outcomes.

A live Talk About it Tuesday happened today!
Tammie and Stacey were invited to speak to the Northwest Ohio Trauma Informed Care Collaborative. We were able to offer insights to supporting clients and staff as well as ways to support our own wellbeing and nervous system regulation as clinicians 🧘🏼‍♀️

Expanding on last week’s conversation, Stacey dives a little deeper into the neuroscience behind human connection, and why relationships aren’t just nice to have… they’re biologically essential.

✨ Oxytocin, often called the bonding or connection hormone, is released through safe touch, meaningful conversation, shared laughter, and emotional attunement. It helps lower stress, increase trust, and reinforces our sense of belonging.

✨ From a polyvagal perspective, supportive relationships activate the ventral vagal system, the part of our nervous system responsible for feelings of safety, calm, and social engagement. When this system is online, we’re better able to communicate, regulate emotions, and show up as our most grounded selves.

💛 The takeaway: Positive, supportive people help regulate our nervous systems. They quite literally signal to our brains and bodies that we are safe, seen, and not alone. Over time, these connections build resilience, emotional flexibility, and overall well-being. We truly are affected by the people we surround ourselves with, so choose who to spend your time with wisely!
