It's with great sadness that we say that Sister Sarah "Sally" Neale passed away this morning (8/17) at 3:15a.m. Sister Sally was one of two amazing women who helped form Sarah's Place. Her heart and dedication made a difference in the lives of all who knew her. She used her nursing talent as a mission to teach hundreds of men and women the power of medicine. May she now rest in peace. Please keep Sister Maritia and all of Sally's friends and family in your prayers during this difficult time. Sister Maritia requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sarah's Place.

Update: The Elliot County Fiscal Court approved our request to sublease the facility to Northeast Headstart. We will post more information here as we move forward.

Due to COVID-19, Sarah’s Place was forced to suspend services mainly because we were unable to meet the child care pandemic requirements without a costly facility renovation. Additionally because we were not operating as a child care provider we lost our license, which to get renewed, is time consuming and costly. During all this we lost all employees who moved on to other jobs. Because child care is an important part of our recovery, the Board of Directors want to ensure that child care services remain available in our area as we revitalize our own programs, so we are hoping to lease the facilities to the Northeast Head Start program for 5 years. This will give the Sarah’s Place Board time to evaluate how best to continue serve the community, and create programs to meet those needs. The approval of the fiscal court of Elliott Co. is required for such a lease, therefore, we’ve sent a letter requesting their support, which will be presented at the September fiscal court meeting. Rest assured, those on the board of Sarah’s Place remain committed to providing opportunities for growth, development, and support for women and children in our region. We look forward to partnering with local and regional organizations as we move forward to continue the mission Sister Sally and Maritia envisioned for our community

A new year is here and we have some news. There's been talk about what's going on with Sarah's Place. COVID left a strong imprint on our agency. It caused us to put our operation on hold since March 20, 2020. Things may have changed and child care facilities can open but there are strict guidelines that are put in place. In order for us to be able to bring Sarah's Place back to the status it deserves, we're going to have to take some time to regroup. Our plan is to work behind the scenes and get things in order so we can abide by all the rules that have been made. That being said, our time frame to reopen to the public is June 2021. (This date is tentative to change depending on circumstances at that time.) We want to thank all of our supporters who have been donating during this hard time and for the Ayer's Foundation for awarding us a grant that will go a long way in helping us rebuild our organization. We are still taking donations (they are needed now more than ever) by mail or you can PayPal us at sarahsplace.ashley@gmail.com. We are NOT closing. We are regrouping.

On March 20, 2020, Sarah's Place closed our doors temporarily due to the orders from our governor. I never imagined that nearly 7 months later they'd still be closed. With this shut down, we've taken quite a few hits emotionally, physically and financially. From adjusting to how our childcare center wasn't going to be there for the amazing families we've helped for years to dealing with someone breaking into the CDC to figuring out how Sarah's Place can still move forward with donations down, we've had to deal with a lot. Now we are realizing that we aren't going to be able to open until January 2021. That is frustrating beyond all measure. Frustrating but in order for things to be safe for the children and staff along with obeying state guidelines, we have no other choice. Each week I sit down and think "how do we make this work" and I remind myself that God has a plan for this. He has a plan set up for Sarah's Place that we just don't know yet. We aren't giving up hope. We know our doors will open up eventually. It's just taking longer than expected. With all of this being said, I ask that you please pray for Sarah's Place and everything it is made of. If you feel like you can donate financially, please do. We need every dollar we can get so we can reopen at full capacity when the time is right. Remember we are here. The doors may be closed for now but eventually the sun will shine and they'll open again. Thank you for your support and many blessings to all.

You can't tell me that God does not protect His people and in this case, His people's things. Last night I found out that a tree had fell at Sarah's Place. I had no idea what I'd be facing until I got there this morning. Thankfully there was limited damage and nothing severe. It could have really taken out the bottom section and/or hurt someone if they had been there. A big thank you to the city workers at Sandy Hook who are going to take it away for us!!!! Thank you God for watching over Sarah's Place!

Message from our CEO:

After a meeting with the board this past week, the decision was made for Sarah's Place to stay closed for the month of September and hopefully be able to reopen in October.

This decision is not made lightly. I hate to even have to be in this situation but for the health and safety of the children and staff, we feel it is best to stay closed.

With the guidelines being so strict, we're trying to figure out the best way to reopen but we have to adhere to all rules and regulations.

We appreciate all the support and prayers you've given us since the end of March. This situation is truly frustrating but we have to do what we feel is best for all. We miss our kiddos and their families!

Hopefully we'll have better news when the board and I meet again next month. In the meantime I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

Thank you,
Ashley
