Update: The Elliot County Fiscal Court approved our request to sublease the facility to Northeast Headstart. We will post more information here as we move forward.
Due to COVID-19, Sarah’s Place was forced to suspend services mainly because we were unable to meet the child care pandemic requirements without a costly facility renovation. Additionally because we were not operating as a child care provider we lost our license, which to get renewed, is time consuming and costly. During all this we lost all employees who moved on to other jobs. Because child care is an important part of our recovery, the Board of Directors want to ensure that child care services remain available in our area as we revitalize our own programs, so we are hoping to lease the facilities to the Northeast Head Start program for 5 years. This will give the Sarah’s Place Board time to evaluate how best to continue serve the community, and create programs to meet those needs. The approval of the fiscal court of Elliott Co. is required for such a lease, therefore, we’ve sent a letter requesting their support, which will be presented at the September fiscal court meeting. Rest assured, those on the board of Sarah’s Place remain committed to providing opportunities for growth, development, and support for women and children in our region. We look forward to partnering with local and regional organizations as we move forward to continue the mission Sister Sally and Maritia envisioned for our community
